Good luck man. I put one of their fuse blocks in the 71 and it wasn't too bad. Its nice to have connections for everything anyway. Routing the dang wires is a b!tch though. Jeff.

I didn't use 'painless' brand but I did do an aftermarket harness replacement on mine during the resto, worked out really good.

I kept the original fuse block "look" and ordered a harness that was ready to use with an internal regulated alt.

Both engine bay and interior harness's (sp) went right in without issue.

Well heres a progress report I have been going slow as to not screw up anything. I removed the old harness which has to get an award for not burning the whole blazer to the ground,it was pretty bad in some area's.. I finally got the firewall hole cut for the junction block after I had to buy a new dremel tool to cut it with. Waiting for the paint to dry now...

Couple of tips

#1 make sure template to cut hole is not upside down(it is not marked)other wise you have to weld up 2 new holes you just drilled into the fire wall(only the harness block can clue you into which side is up or down)

#2 It is best to do this before paint and with out a front drivers side fender... i HAVE SPENT HALF MY DAY ON MY HEAD WITH A DREMEL TOOL IN HAND..

O.K. moving right along the harness is not done yet ,but as I said I am taking my time and if I feel I am getting into a rush I stop and work on something else... Right now the fuse box is mounted to the fire wall and most of the wires are ran to the location... One thing I really like is the long lenght of wire that they supply you with.... Also looks like I may have to spend some more $$ on a new alternator as I do not see the plug for a externally regulater alternator(not a big deal though it was an upgrade I had wanted) Should have the front lights and motr hooked up by 10:00 am and then I will move into the interior...

Finally got most of the harness installed just waiting on the other harness' I ordered... These kits do not come with all the harness replacement's required(it sure should have for the $$$$) I had to spend extra $$ on a rear tail light harness ans a new column harness...

Hey French, I gotta stupid ?. Why do you need a dremel tool. Is it a different style fuse block than the original. I'm thinking about replacing mine, but if I need to make new holes in the firewall I may not.

I put the same harness in- pretty easy- long wires, markings,etc- (unless you can't see, like me- then it's a "PAIN"- my 2 goofs were hooking up the "idiot lite" temp wire to the engine temp bulb instead of the "gauge" wire- but a call to painless solved that problem.

I also swapped all my lights- rear, side marker, turns- for LEDS and clear lenses- only problem is the turn signals won't flash when the lights and stops are on? Painless is blaming a ground somehere (or 2,3,4,5.....) I haven't got that far along inthe troubleshooting- hand signals work just fine for now.

Take your time, keep the wires off manifolds, exhaust, etc and you will be done in no time.

Kleantouch - IIRC you need a special flasher for LED's, did you replace the stock flasher?

I took pic's but my computer is so old it does not have a port to hook up the camera...
The kit is done but next time i will try to find a complete kit that comes with everything I had to but the rear taillight harnesss and the column harness seperate. Hey klean I have the same problems with my leds and everybody says its a ground problem and I cannot seem to get it fixed(this is why I bought a new harness) I have thrown about $500 to try to get the lights to work and still have no turn signals when the headlights are on,but on the plus side my blazer does have all new wireing in it now??? I really need to call ece and ask them..

French- I pm'ed 71swb4x4 to see if he had a p/n for the right flasher. Worth a shot, shouldn't add too much more to your $500- and another part will be be brand new! Painless said thier flasher should work- so where do we go to ask? my rocket scientists at Autozone give me the blank stare on questions that require thought!

(BEFORE YOU GET MAD AT ME- I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF KNOWLEDGEABLE AUTOZONE PERSONNEL- JUST NOT IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD)

I am pretty sure the part # is el12 I have 2 brand new ones in the blazer and it did not fix the problemm..

When I put the new "painless" fuse box in the '71, I found that the headlight switch had two red wires. I only hooked one up and only some of my lights worked. Hooked up the other red wire to power and there you go, lights. Might try messing with that side of it and see if that helps. I just hooked a jumper to power with alligator clips on both ends til I got it to work, then hooked it up permanent. Jeff.

French, I just caled Terry at Early Classic- where I got my leds, he said there is an "electronic" flasher unit- they have one for $15 + ship, said Autozone "should have them as well- difference is plastic housing vs al housing- he also said the "heavy duty" flashers won't work on the leds because of the low volt/amp requirements- so, I'm on the hunt for one locally- if I find one, I'll post.

I'll have to check my harness for 2 red wires as well, although I don't recall them.

The second red came off the headlight switch harness too. The main one is about 14 guage and the second is about 18 guage. Jeff.

I have the electronic flashers and have the leds now grounded to the frame of the truck ... These things are comming off untill I can have a professional look at it... I have dumped a bunch of $$$ into just trying to make these leds work and still no work wiht the head light switch on...

Hey French- I wonder what happens if you plug an 1157 in the light sockets? I'll try later this week- just dont have the time- or maybe unplug all the lights, see if the flasher flashes, then start plugging them back in 1 at a time??? I'll let you know. Does your light sw. have 2 red wires? I haven't checked mine yet.
