Engine is in good shape!
I just bought this truck back in July. The guy told me the engine had been rebuild in 89 or so by the previous owner, then stored in a barn (the rust backs up this story).
I figured he was BS'ing me on the motor, but when I pulled that Victor Jr off to install a milder intake manifold, low and behold, an engine you could eat off of! Just though I'd share my joyous surprise with you guys :P Too bad the guy got a little silly with the silicone...don't people know to stop after the china walls? lol ![]() Last edited by mplex2000; 09-07-2005 at 11:28 PM. |

I pulled the Victor, which oddly enough had a Holley 600 vac sec on top.
For the time being, a Holley Street Dominator (basically a Performer) is going on with a rebuilt 650 DP, just to get it to run decent. With the cam and Victor, it really liked to bog and stall off the line. I've got a Perfomer RPM that (unless I decide on another manifold) I'm going to have injector bungs welded up so I can convert to a 4 barrel EFI setup. Probably the same time I do that I'll go ahead and switch to roller cam and AFR heads. I don't really know what's in the motor since it was built two owners and 16 years ago :P |

Gotta love it when you doubt something and it turns out to be true! I also bought a truck with a "rebuilt" motor several years ago that had low oil pressure when i got it running

Hahaha...well, I knew everything couldn't be too good. No harm done, but I found a set of throttle return springs resting above the pushrods inside the valve cover. I'm suprised with my luck that I found them before they got tangled up in the valve springs or something!

Good ideas on that link you provided . . ..... "save money on parts". I've got one of those Autozone punch cards.

Nice score! I guess I was lucky with my vic jr, it drives fine as a daily driver.

Well it probably would run better but it had that 600 vac sec plus a big cam and I suspect a stock converter. Quite the totally mismatched setup!
I've narrowed my cam choices down (going roller now for sure). Just have to pick one and I think for now I'm going to go with a single turbo on the carb until I go EFI. Last edited by mplex2000; 09-11-2005 at 01:55 PM. |

the vic junior is a huge intake and works fine on the street so long as you have at least a 750 carb and it will need pretty hefty jetting.
