New here, with questions

Hi everyone!
First off, ReNay is my truck's name; i'm a dude, ha! anyway, i've got a 68 fleetside longbed. it's got a 307, but it's not original. best guess so far with the block numbers is a 73 camaro or nova. if someone could tell for sure, i'll post the numbers (build date, casting number and casting date). it's a half ton hydromatic as well.

but onto my questions
1. does anyone know where i can find a protect-o-plate decoder for my truck online? i've got the original owners manual and the booklet that has the plate in the back. i would like to know what options it originally came with (mainly motor). all i know is it was a v-8 from the VIN. i have no sticker on the inside glovebox.

2. my right turnsignal dash light randomly/intermittently flickers when i'm driving. it seems obvious is a loose connection or something somewhere. any ideas where to start.

i just love my truck. i had a 72 fleetside a couple years ago and sold it, cause i'm an idiot. i'm so glad to be back in the 'family'. plus, i personally like the looks of the 67-68 better. and i've still got PS/PB. i've just got drums all the way around. but i'd like to convert those some day.

thanks in advance for your help!!

Have you tried www.mortec.com to check the engine block numbers against?

OH - and welcome to the board from central Florida!

The turn signal is probably a ground problem. I woulc check the wire that goes through the front clip to your front turn light, they like to rub on metal and fray.

thank you for both QUICK replies!!
yes, i have tried the mortech site. i don't have the numbers with me so i can't recall which 307 it matched up with on the list - after after looking at all the 307 on the site just now, only one had a specific designation and that was "truck", but i know that was my casting number. all the rest pretty much just say 69-73. i recall one of the codes ended in CHH (suffix). that's where i found a site that said it was a block that was in like a 73 camaro, or a 73 nova.

i will check the wire tonight as well.

thanks again,
shawn

the site i was referring to is chevymania.com. i know from my other block numbers that it's a 73 block. and with tat suffix (CHH), it's either a camaro or nova. both were like 115 hp and L-14 with a TH350. is there anyway i can narrow it down to just one of those two cars? can i get that from the either the casting date/number or engine build number?

down the road it won't matter when i drop in a 350 but for the time being i'd like to know what's in it, plus it may effect what parts work on that motor...

thanks,
shawn

Welcome from ohio. You'll find that we love pictures, and we'll want to see your rig...we don't care if it is top choice, or a steaming pile of dung...we dig trucks.
As for your options question, the ONLY way you will find what it had originally (since your sticker is gone) is if you get lucky enough to find the build sheet. The VIN won't tell you anything except that it has a V-8....and that's it. The Protecto-plate won't tell you anything either.
Locating the build sheet is not very likely. They are normally tucked into the seat cushion from the back...tucked under the metal spring/frame. Once in a while, they'll be found under the carpet/mat or even on the back side of the fuel tank, but only a handfull are ever found in those locations.
Other than that, you'll just have to guess or make it up as you go along.

thanks for the info.
i was under the impression that the protect-o-plate had more info, including motor size and such. oh well. i believe at one point my truck was 'restored' before. they did a good job, but it was probably years and years ago so it needs new paint again and it's starting to rust againin a few places. it appears the truck was originally gold. it's red now and they did it right, meaning, under th hood, the engine side firewall, the entire inside cab (must have pulled everything out and sprayed it... anyway. it's certainly not a show truck, nor will it ever be. i want something i can drive and 'use'. but i will be more than happy to post a pic. i'll try and take one after church tomorrow.

thanks again everyone.

welcome from sunny Sacramento CA.

I have SBC MSA-1 books. If you PM or email the numbers I will give you their information. CHH also came in an Impala in 78.
I would be more concerned with the heads than the block unless you are trying to stay stock or make a 383, etc.
