even tho I am gonna use it for parts were the 1 ton longhorns rarer then the 3/4 ton models?and are the gmc ones rarer then the chev ones?The only reason we bought this one is for the bed so i am just gonna part it out anyways.

1 t's were much more rare than the 3/4's. In 1970 there were only 1404 1 t's produced. I am sure Longhorn Man will weigh in on this one since he has all the numbers. Much fewer GMC's than Chevys too. You should restore it! I have a perfect rust free bed just sitting here on my '72 frame and there is another one locally for free...just haul it off!

Is Drayton Valley near New Drayton? I was in Crow's Nest Pass and Pincher Creek last weekend!

I can't remember the #'s for GMC, i want to say it was one GMC for every 3 chevys. (no hard numbers, just ball parks since the records were all lost) And yes, one ton longhorns were in smaller numbers every year, the 68 esp...IIRC, 215 one tons in 68?

Maybe Longhorn man could help with this one. I have 157" wheel base 72' dually with 3500 fender badges. The as manufactured weight is 6600 lbs. The max gross loaded weight is 14,000 lbs. I figure the bed was not included in the manufactured weight and it probably goes 1400 lbs leaving me 7000 lbs. So even though my truck says its a GMC 3500 in reality it is a 3.5 ton truck. Is this line of thought correct?

You are right on everything there.
No 157 one trucks were built with beds. All flat beds or boxes or what ever were after production. Also, there were no trucks with beds, that were duallys. Single rear wheel only.
Your 6600 pounds, is that text book weight...or is that real world sitting on the scale weight. They are seldom the same.
BTW, are you bailing on the whole truck hobby, or do you have a truck/stash that you are keeping as you go on to the Novas too?

I'm selling all the truck stuff, but if the dually does not sell I'll make it into a car hauler for haulin' my Nova around. They make the roll back conversion kits and this truck would be an tough hauler with a minimum amount of work.

I am about 4 hours north of there.If i had another bed i would restore it for sure,but i am gonna keep it as complete as possible just in case

Ya, tis (almost) the season that I return to post quite frequently. Reason as of late for my absence was getting my Truck back on the road after a recent engine rebuild so I've been putting on a few miles and lovin' every minute of it (even with the current price of gas!)

longhorn71, I have an extra Longhorn bed, cheap! I go to Sandpoint about twice per year which is about half way to you. That bed rides (inverted) on a standard pickup box or on a Longhorn! Easy to load and leaves room for all your other goodies in the box.

Here is an example of a stepside box on my Toyota...they ride great this way.

Hmmmmm What do you consider cheap?If I can another bed for my truck I will consider not parting out the other one .....but lets not forget that the numbers on MY truck are pretty darn low (1 of 316) so I will be ruthless and put another one down if I can save my truck

Not sure I follow this.If you add 1400 to 6600 you get 8000.If you subtract 8000 from 14000 you`ll have 6000lbs.for payload.
The amount of payload does not determine the model of truck.Your 3500 is a 1ton that can haul 3 tons.
