What shape was it in?
Where did they find it?
Is this good or bad?
If everything is all good, how does this work with insurance?
Where are the details?

Not good eddie. It was stolen if I recall correctly two years ago. It was found last week in a wrecking yard here in phoenix, I bet I have driven by there at least a couple of hundred times. Its completely striped just a bare shell from what I was told and completely rusted - they must have set it on fire. As I get more details I'll let you know.

I bet you just started forgetting about it too. Let us know what you find out.

Junkyards should run the VINs by the PD of every car they take in, to help with situations such as this. I know they are suppesed to collect the titles, but I bet 1/2 do and 1/2 don't.

bb73, they told me the yard is now under investigation for receiving a stolen vehicle and their trying to make a connection to the suspicious vehicle that was spotted in the area after it was stolen to see if there is any connection there to. i'll keep everyone posted, my son is on his way to the wrecking yard right now to see it. Soory my digital camera is down so there'll be no pics.

Thats sucks but at least you will have some closeure.

Alot of times the wrecking yard will get striped out junkers left infront of thier gates no title usually, 99% of the time sone one couldent fix or sell it so they give up and haul them off. If it was fire damged or beat to hell they probably figured it was a legit throw away truck nothing suspecious about it sell what you can. Now if it rolled in there looking like the pic

How did the police come across the truck???

I know when I have taken trucks and cars to the crusher, they take the vin # but don't say anything about the title.

They do run the vins by the cops to make sure they know who brought it in.

Well he went down and looked at it, completely striped, no doors, glass, dash, just the frame, rear axle( evidently off another truck) older front fenders, no bed, yep nothing but a shell the officer was right. He was told he could buy it back for $44 but when contacted by the insurance co. they told him that he had to bid on it at auction. Also it was not burned like I said earlier and not rusted either, I'm not sure why the polce said that it was, maybe they just at to many to recall.

Oh and dont forget this if your thinking of moving here, were number 1 in car thefts in the country, lol.

sorry to here that bro but i work/ own a junkyard and by tx laws we cant have anything on our yard without a title and most of the vehicles we buy we get the title first go make sure it matchs the vin then buy it but others that want them towed off we tell them we cant touch it without a title and they get all mad sayin it not stolen but if the task force came in and asked for the title for a specific car and we dont have it then they can say it stolen but we just crushed 200 cars last year the crusher ppl wrote down every vin the crushed and sent it to the dmv sayin there no longer in intact

ureckme, its at the western towing yard in phx that is where it was taken when they impounded it. The wrecking yard that it was found at was somewhere on broadway, I think he said around 16 ave.
bodydrop, same is true here according to the police, I believe their now going thru the yard checking vin#s. The truth is though that no matter what happens there will be no way that anyone will be arrested, could you imagine how many fingerprints are on a truck after its been sitting in a wrecking yard for a year and a half, even mine are probably on it - oh wait I forgot that I owned it, lol.

86, yes it was insured and appraised, if some of you have not done both i would urge you to do so, it will certainly be helpful during settlement time.

Are they sure they didnt just switch the vin plate?
Is there a vin on the frame?, Where is it anyway?
Do you feel the insurance company handled the settlement well, what company?
Do you know if the police checked the yard engine stock for your engine?
Dont know how you would prove that one anyway.

Eddie, the vin was still on the cab, I don't know about the frame vin, never checked. Its at Western Towing yard now.
State Farm, yeah the treated us pretty well, but again I had all the documentation and appraisel.
The stock engine was replaced a long time ago, I had 5 star engine builders put one in a year before it was stolen, I doubt it can be traced.
I beleive its closure for all of us, were not looking at every truck we see that looks similar to it and wondering any more. If someone is caught and prosecuted fine, if not that to is fine. What this has taught me is to be a model citizen and report any sucpicous activity and to make sure everything is locked up and secure as much as it possibly can be. Is this going to stop thieve - NO! In fact just a few weeks ago while I was on vacation someone tried to steal my tahoe -twice. First time I walked out on them the second time the tore up the rubber molding around the door and scrathed the paint. So I've learned to just move on, life sucks some times.
