Air Cleaner

Will a 14" Air Cleaner fit on a 307 4bbl with an HEI Distributor? I have a 14" one but the intake and carb are off the truck now so I can't just walk out and test it. I wanted to know if anyone's had problems with fitting 14" ones on their trucks because I hope to have this thing put together on the 4th and if I find out that it doesn't fit then I'll be SOL since all parts stores will be closed.

Is the air cleaner base a drop base or flat base? If it is drop base you might need a plastic spacer that is made by transdapt or edelbrock, and can be picked up a local schucks, kraggen, checker or local parts store. If it is flat you shouldn't have problems even with your HEI.

It's a drop base. I'm actually taking it back today because it's just a little too big for my Edlebrock carb. I was either gonna pick up another 14" Edlebrock cleaner or just go for a 10" one instead. They're suppose to fit my carb.

I wouldn't take it back and get a 10". The 14" will fit just fine, as long as it is a 4bbl Edelbrock or similar carb. A 2bbl will need a adapter to make it work. You should be able to run 4 or 5 inch tall filter without any problem. You will be fine.

The 14 inch dropped base WILL need the spacer if it is a performer carb. That's what i am running.
Plus it says it right in the book.

well, I just took the 14" back today and got the 10" one. It came with a 2" tall air filter but I'll probably change it out for a taller K&N filter. This way I know for sure that it'll fit.
