Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Nice Cadillac escalade motor 6.0liter motor in that truck. Nice job of hiding the diagnostic plug just under the steering column. Very nice job.

Did you install that motor in that truck shifty or you know the guy personally? That motor is a drive by wire motor. How did you all set that up with the old style gas pedal?

That A/C system is Vintage Air out of Cibilo Texas - Next to San Antonio.
But the control plate looks custom made.
Extremely clean and well thought out.

I have seen it and heard it. When he stepped on it, it would wake the whole neighborhood up. Really sweet.

Taylor tells me the system and controls are from Classic Auto Air
That plate setup is definately something to think about...

The pedal just pushes in reverse. I don't know exactly how Taylor did it (it's not my truck or motor). His is a 6.0L LS1. I've got a 5.7L LS1.

My gallery with pics of the engine and my truck are here:

Didn't see the pics... but a good place to hide stuff like that is under a high hump cover while leaving the low hump metal in place. That's where I'm planning to hide a multitude of stuff like that.

Good idea. I haven't thought about that. I think it would stretch that far, too.

I was thinking about fabbing a platform for it to sit on, but I don't want all the spaghetti. If I keep my blower and heater core, I can't really stick it there. Ah, this is the fun of it all though, right? Figuring alll this stuff out ....

I am confused with you guys calling a 6.0L an LS1?

LS1 is an all aluminum block 5.7L.

6.0L is an LQ4, Iron block with aluminum heads. Uses the same engine diagnostic codes and EFI as a LS1.

5.3L is an LM7. Iron block, with aluminum heads. Uses the same engine diagnostic codes and EFI as a LS1.

The LQ4 is a 6.0L and came in the Escalade. I think that engine is an LQ4. His uses and F-Body PCM. I think the intake (and maybe heads?) is different on the LQ4 versus the LS1, but isn't it the same block? The intake is a few inches taller and the peripherals (A/C, alternator, etc) are in diff't places.

I can't explain that one to you. I have a book on tweaking these things out downstairs, but I gotta get off my ass and get my engine in today, so I'm heading to the store to get supplies. Maybe FirstGen can stop in and explain.

Gotcha ... I couldn't begin to tell you then. I guess that's something he'd hafta tell you. All I know for sure is that the intake is 2-3" taller on the LQ4.

:tj: the truck motors are known as "LS-based Vortec motors" really confusing, cuz they aren't really LS motors, and they aren't really Vortec motors (Gen II truck motors). the whole family of them are known as Gen III motors (that's where the GenIII in my SN comes from, was hoping for an LQ4, but ended up with a buick 455. darn), the new LS2 and LS7 are Gen IV motors. for those of you wondering Gen I is pre-LT1. this all applies to SBCs, the big blocks are numbered differently and the are on like Gen VII. also, for those of you wanting to mod an LS1/6 on the cheap (yeah, ok), the 6.0L truck intake manifolds have BETTER flow numbers than the stock LS1/6 intakes, they had to compromise to get it to fit under the really low hoods they put on the F-Bodies/Corvettes.

Wow I should feel special having a thread all about my truck! Thanks for all the nice compliments guys!

To clear up some questions about my setup. The wiring harness and TB was converted back to the F-body style cable driven setup, NOT drive by wire which would be almost as easy to put in just alot more expensive if you need to replace a componet.

The A/C is from Classic Auto Air adapted to work with the 6.0L compressor and run off my computer (PCM adjusts for idle air and suck when a/c is on).

The 4.8/5.3/5.7/6.0 are all GenIII motors just like previously stated. I call the 6.0 a ls1 mostly for clarity. Nobody would understand what is was if I didn't say that. It technically has its own letter denomination like LQ4/LQ9.
The 6.0 has an iron block. It takes the same rods, crank, main caps, and has all the exact same provisions as the all aluminum 5.7 block. The heads are different and actually much better flowing than the LS1 and flow slightly less than the LS6 heads. The intake is alot taller, about 3 inches I would say but also flows better than the LS1 intake and slightly less than the LS6 intake. I think the 6.0's are the best bang for the buck out there. At least when I bought mine 18 months ago it was...

There is a ton of small differences in these things but most componets can be easily swapped back and forth. For instance I have a 6.0 longblock with truck accessories, a f-body throttle body, truck MAF, '02 f-body PCM, f-body tremec T-56, etc... you get the idea...

The iron blocks are ideal for big cubic inch buildups and lots of nitrous. You won't find many 408 stroker LS1 motors that aren't using a 6.0 iron block!
