Well, I know this has probably been talked about before, but I'm thinking of installing power door locks on my '76 GMC. Dad built me a new console for my bench seat which makes it harder to reach across to unlock the other side. I've been considering it for a while now anyway, so it just seems like a good time to move ahead with it.

But before I start, I thought I'd ask you folks' opinions. I'm planning on keeping my manual windows, and I'm not sure I want to install switches in the doors. I've seen the kits that LMC sells, and I'm just wondering if they are worth the money. Or, is there something better I should use.

Any opinions, comments, or help will be appreciated.

I would consider the kit(s) that Autoloc offers. So far the kit in my 77 has performed very well. I used the factory switches, but you don't have to. You can add a remote if you want.....

I have had the LMC keyless entry kit in my truck for about 6 months now and have had no problems. It looks incredibly cheap, but I have had no problems. It was only 60 bucks and as a poor college kid, it will work for me.

Personally id'e never use any aftermarket kit but thats just me!

I kinda like staying with factory equipment.

I installed factory pwr windows and door locks in a '91 S10 that i use to have and i robbed the whole system from a two door S10 blazer from the junk yard the whole thing was a plug & play set up plus it only cost 80 bux for everything.

If your gonna go to the hastle of installing pwr locks then you may as well do the windows cuz you will still have to install the switch in the door pnl anyways.

All the mount holes for the window regulators and lock solenoids are allready there all ya have to do is get all the stuff from a doner truck and just bolt it in but you will have to drill the thru holes in the door jambs for the wire harness.

87Stepper - Because of the door panel style of the '76, I don't really want to install switches in the door panels....which is why I'm considering one of the aftermarket setups. Some of the ones I've seen have just a key fob instead of having to install switches. But I do agree, I'd rather have factory stuff most of the time.

I bought doors off a burb that was had both power door locks and power windows. They bolt right. Its an easy swap.
