Post Air Cleaners

With the stock intake manifold or an Edelbrock performer and and HEI what air cleaners will or won't fit? I read that normal 14'' ones do not. I plan to swap to HEI soon and I need to know if I should order an air cleaner too.

if you are swapping over to HEI you will need a air cleaner for HEI setup as the points style rubs on the cap for now I run mine without and air cleaner( I know I know what can I say I'm cheap) but will be getting one when I wswitch to q-jet

Eldebrock has a round 14 inch raised airvleaner that will work with HEI. It is in the Signiture series.

get an offset base for the air cleaner. Mr Gasket, Moroso, lots of those guys have them. It moves the air cleaner forward.

Ya might have to get a spacer to put under the air cleaner so it will clear the HEI. I had to put one on mine.

I've got one of those edelbroke pro flo 1000 series ones, their triangular with a kind of wire mesh on top, no clearance probs, it's cheap, re-usable and I like the looks, doesn't hide your entire engine. Just my 3 cents though

The raised air cleaners will possibly have hood clearence problems. With my 6 i have a 4 barrel and 14" air cleaner with 4 element. My hood barrly fits, but it works fine. Those edelbrock proflows, the foam will get sucked in to the carb after a little use. Thats my experience.

I've got an HEI in my 402. I have the spacer on top of my Carter, and have a 14X3 K&N with no problem.

i have an HEI and ran the stock air cleaner with the stock 3-4" spacer in between it now i switched to edelbrock performer intake, and a edelbrock signature seris air cleaner (it seems light it has a SLIGHT drop base) it clears the HEI just fine but the base hit the electric choke on my Qjet so i used the stock 3-4" spacer but it would work PERFECT with a 1" spacer which edelbrock sells for 10 bucks....
oh anthor thing i just remember i have a 1" carb spacer which could make a diffrence

most aftermarket chrome air cleaners will fit, i have a 14" chrome cleaner on mine(no idea what brand, came with the pickup). If you're wanting a stock look, grab an hei cleaner from like a 75 pickup or something.

Awww sh$@! really? I sure wouldn't want my truck to burn up. You would think a company like Edelbrok would figure for something like that happening and fix it. I liked that thing too!
