Blazer tank problem. Please Help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Okay I am trying to install the tank, going in from the bottom. Well the filler neck is hitting the frame rail, leaving no room to attach a hose. I can't even get the tank straps on the other side to reach the bolts.

if that frame was so nice and shiny i would say it was time to get out the bfh and dimple it. maybe if you cut the neck down about an inch you would gain the room you need to put the hose on

A couple of thoughts I had was to cut a notch in the frame, or have the filler neck bent a little at a muffler shop.

personally would notch the frame at least not very much. i would modify the filler neck itself. i bet you can get one with a curve in it that will clear the frame.

yea that would wook for awhile, until the frame rubed a hole in the rubber gas hose(not good). can you send pics of you looking up at the tank (what is stopping the tank from goind up any further).i think youl'll either have to mod the way it sits ( lower the point that the tank hit the frame) or notch that awsome lookin frame. good luck. keep us posted as i am gonna be going through this soon too.

Cut the neck shorter and get a longer hose, just a thought

Well I messed around with it some more and was able to get both straps attached. The filler neck is a little higher but not much.

now try to put the bed on, the filler neck goes right where 1 bed mounting bolt goes.

I have that same problem when it comes to the frame mount. I've resolved just to leave it out and keep weight in the front of the bed. I think.

I guess stupid question but is the tank for 67-72 applications? Is it the original tank for the vehicle? Aftermarket maybe? Just a couple of thoughts I had. I wonder if my poly tank is the same way that I bought for my Blazer.

It is from Truck Shop and is thee blazer conversion kit for 67-72 trucks.

You know my 2wd blazer frame spreads out a little in the rear from regular 2wd truck frames. I wonder if that could be your problem. If the tank is for a blazer and the blazer frame is wider in the rear. If you look at a 2wd blazer frame from the top it spreads a littel before it goes to the rear. I havent looked at a truck frame in a while to remember. It seems to me that is the problem when Blazer guys try to use truck frames to convert 4x4's. Just a thought. Could have the neck cut and rewelded at a gas tank repair shop.

You know looking at it again, I would get my floor jack handle and insert it in to the neck (if it fits) and bend it up just a little so that you can fit a hose on it and it will not rub.

Drill 4 new holes and move the tank back and the filler neck will clear the mounting bolt, but the tank will still hit the cross sill.

I feel your pain, just went through that a couple months ago. I bent the filler neck up just a bit, had to cut my cross sill up 2 inches (bed was on so that was lots of fun) and then moved the tank rearward as much as possible. The other thing was that I originally bought 1-3/8" standard fill hose...didn't work because it kinked at the tank because of that angle you have there. Instead I was able to get 1-3/8" filler hose that was reinfored with wire, the wire is imbedded within the hose material...pretty cool stuff and easy to work with. Now it doesn't kink. My setup has worked pretty well. Good luck!

Just remove the cross sill plate alltogether,my tank fit like a glove but I did remove croos plat the only problem I had was finding the reducer for the hose to filler spout.

I used a van as a donor vehicle and saved the gas tank & hoses in case I can make it fit. The filler hose pieces on the van filler parts are flattend about 50% in one spot spot. Just something you might consider.

I bent the filler neck up just a bit, had to cut my cross sill up 2 inches (bed was on so that was lots of fun) and then moved the tank rearward as much as possible.
