Charged The A/C today...question though
The "generic" manual says "26-32oz" but in reality it took 4 pounds! Anybody else have an "OldAir" Hurricane unit w/R134a?
How much did you have to put in? It is definately not overcharged. The suction remains around 20-22 lbs and the head pressure while driving is around 220-225 and the temp @ the vent measured with a Fluke digital thermometer is 42 degrees. The compressor cycles normally and seems to work fine. I am not used to seeing a super-heat difference of 50 degrees! This is my first experience w/134 Anybody care to add to this? Thanx! |

That’s sounds like to much........Just went thought this on my truck.. 2 and a half to 3 cans max R134A. Don’t go by the site glass. Also make sure your expansion valve sense tube is on the out put of the evaporator, and only use 1 rap of the black sticky stuff to cover it. Also, don’t run the temp cycle full cold........turn it back just a tad so it wont freeze up on the highway. Put foam around your condenser on the top and bottom so that all the air passes though it. Can take some picks if you want.

Best way to tell how much to add is watch expansion valve and fittings at firewall and quit when they start to "sweat". Good luck and keep on truckin'!------Jerry

Don't have a sight glass. The expansion valve sweats and later on will start to freeze up but the compressor cycles on and off especially on low fan so the evap. never has a chance to freeze up. Cools great though. I am just a little perplexed by this whole 134A sh*t!

And here I thought you used a thermometer and added coolant until the vent temp started going back up. You know, like they do at the a/c shop.
