took the heads off...look what I found
A bit of rust in one of the cylinders. I put the penetrating oil to it and it took it right off. Just have to use a 400 grit emery to remove a bit off the marking now.

Was it just a gasket problem or is something worse wrong causing that problem?

Looks like it was a gasket problem. Whoever did the work on this engine previously did a really bad job. So it looks like it's time for more of a rebuild than i was hoping.

How long has it been since it was rebuilt? It sure is clean.
Mine had crap built up almost to the bottom of the intake.

Do yourself a favor dubie, and get the block and heads magnafluxed (sp?) before the rebuild
Doesn’t look to bad though unless a crack in the block or head caused the water seepage into the cylinder. |

No those aren't pits. It's just the pic. I will be taking the block to the local machine shop to have the cylinders honed and re cross hatched, might even go as far as going .40 over, dunno yet, gotta see how much $$$$ it's gonna run me. But it looks like this is gonna be a winter rebuild project. I was hoping to have it done this summer, but looks like it's postponed for 1 more year.
