My inner roof is rusted through bad, even above the doors, how is the best way to replace it? Any previous thread? Thanks.

^ I agree, the only patch panel available is above the winsheild from
visor mounting area to visor mounting area, time to chop the top off.

Where is the best place to cut the roof off? I'm just a novice welder and can imagine having alignment problems with a replacement roof.

the pillars. just make very good measurements, measure again, and cut.
notice in the photoshopped pics, i left you some room to work with by leaving some of the pillar on the donor roof.

Replace the cab, sectioning in a pieced of the roof like that is better left for the experts. You are better off replacing rockers, cab corners, and floor sections than sectioning a roof top.

It’s definitely no small task, but my pillar suggestion has it's pros and cons.
Pros: you can get the new roof in without warping the roof most the time, and it should be clean and simple with a sawzaw.
Cons: you could get a measurement off and never get the windshield to fit again and have leaking weather stripping.

If it were me, I’d find a new cab as well.

You could think Roadster or cab replacement. If the top of the cab is that far gone then I would guess the bottom could use a little work to.

But on the other hand.

If you have plenty of time then you could always go for it. I wouldn't think it would be dificult or expensive to find a doner top. You could treat it like a chopped top but it would be much easier because none of the tops dimensions would change. I think there's a lot of info availabe about doing chopped tops that would help you determine where to join the doner top. If it doesn't turn out the way you want you're not out much and you've had a great learning experience.

Eeenie meenie, minie moe, which way do I go? LOL. The bottom just needs rockers and one rear cab support, fairly solid Alabama truck. Has anyone used the roof patch panel? I do have time so I may attempt total roof replacement, getting a lil better with welder, and there are a lot of trucks around here.
I'm actually just making a driver out of it, have my eye on a 68 short fleet that may get the show treatment. What is available for roadsters as far as a rag top? I have seen removeable/carson tops on some but that's too much effort as well.

As far as I know there isn't anything available. The few truck roadsters I've seen where fair weather drivers or show only.

There was a post on here by Squirel on replacing the inner & outer roof panels and leaving the roof frame in place. ( Posted on 4-27-05 on the message board / PROGRESS PIC. 67CHEV) I don't know how to create a link to it, so you'll have to go back and look for it. It included pictures & some instructions. But this also is no easy job.

Looking at the pics of the guy who fixed the sun roof, Id have to say its a lot easier to lop the top and weld the four posts than to reskin.

Great link, thanks! That should be a FAQ. I can picture a full width sun roof, heat some plexiglass over an outer roof to shape it and glue it on? Hehe can you say redneck?

I always tell myself I'm going to just clean it up the easy way to make a nice looking driver, then something like this pops up and it's a battle of indecisions. I do have time on my hands, and the 3M adhesive is a great option to welding, hmmm, lemme think about it while I patch my fenders, cab support, and rockers.

The other paradox is the fleet bed sides are great looking, but the front half of the bed is gone and patched with sheet metal!

changing the roof skins is actually not to hard took about 8 hours the hardest part was getting the new roof skin off with out damaging it.
