Got my new Italian tags!!!
I finally got my truck registered in Italy with historical registration and tags. Pay 25 Euros a year for registration and 100 Euros a year for insurance.
Tags even match truck colors!!! Had to wire reverse lights as turn signals with yellow bulbs and run a fog light as reverse under the bumper. Last edited by crustysarge; 09-22-2005 at 12:06 PM. |

 Have you lived in Italy your whole life? I've only been twice (for work), both times to Milano, but I had to drive down from Lausanne, CH. Fun drive! I've taken the route through Mt. Blanc and also the route through the tunnel @ St. ... Bernard? I forget the actual name they use there. I just remember it's several miles long and it sucks if you get stuck behind a big truck!

NIce looking American Steel. Why did you wire the reverse lights as yellow turnsignals, is it a European traffic requirement ???

Nice Truck and Cool Plates. I am guessing he is from Texas. I wish registration and insurance was that inexpensive in CA. What is the value of the truck in Italy?

Nice looking truck. I was over in France and Italy a couple of years ago and never saw anything that nice. I believe that the amber turn signals is a requirement. I saw a '88 + silverado with custom amber signal lights on it.

I have another question. Does your registration papers say in any way how much you can tow with the truck? Since I live in a EU country (Netherlands) I was wondering if I could use info from your truck to get the towing amount on my registration papers. Been here around 21 years total, did almost my whole career in the Air Force here and now work for the Corps of Engineers.
Yellow is a requirement, I also had to disconnect the side markers front and back, install H-4 lights with a small parking bulb inside, disconnect the yellow parking lights in front and make then turn signal only. Once initial inspection was done I reversed it all except the rear turn signals. Italians are not too keen on seeing red ones and I don't want to get rear ended. Yeah, Hank Williams and Merle Haggard with the windows down gets some attention!!! Actually quite a few old American cars around and I go to meets and races at least 6 times in the summer in Italy alone. You would be surprised what is hidden behind garage doors. I live in the NE part of the country so pretty open and good modern roads, not like Naples. I am from the Lake Texoma area and am half Texan/half Okie. Edmond, I would be more than glad to scan and email you what I have. They gave me 500 kilos of weight in the bed and 2000 towing. I have a 350 with automatic. they look very hard at all the specs of the truck and calculate it out. I have an American made hitch and had to pay an extra 200 Euros to get it registered with it...wink-wink...Yours should as a C20. Mine is a Cheyenne Super C10. |

Rains a lot though. Nicknamed the urinal of Italy by the locals. Stays green though and mild climate. Did I mention it rains a lot? Rained several days last week and all weekend. Rained some yesterday. Rain is in the forecast for the next few days. Probably rain Sunday and Monday. I imagine more rain is coming soon. Did I tell you it rains a lot here though? Germany has nothing on this place.

I have to aks, what does 2000 K come to in pounds? I get the feeling my truck would be banned if I took it to Europe. probably me too. LOL

If I remember correctly, it is 2.2 lbs per kilogram, therefore 2000K would be 4400 #
How much does gasoline cost in Italy. I bet they measure it in liters. This drove me nuts when I visited the Philippines 4 years ago. The gas conversion plus the currency conversion and specially the way they drive.  Nice truck, by the way!

You don't want to know. Right now with the exchange rate sucks. I work on base so I get NATO gas coupons and I just bought rations for this month and it was $2.57 a gallon. I am rationed a 100 gallons a month.
NOW, if you buy locally it is right at $6 a gallon... Tow is 4,400 pounds. They are very strict, no hillbilly towing. They will confiscate the entire rig if you are stupid and grossly outweigh the ratings if stopped. |

$2.57 a gallon is a bargain. Last week I was paying $1.19 canadian for a litre. luckily I only burn 3 - 100 litre tanks of gas a week .

Thats not too bad. Here in town its $2.69 a gallon. On base at the gas station its like $2.85
 Ought to be cheaper on base, but its not. How much is a liter to gallon? Always wondered about that. Jeff.

Now that would have been cool for me to have seen when we were visiting back the first week of this past May. As a car guy from south Mississippi, I was thrilled to see a Ferarri past us doing about a buck forty as we were on our bus ride from the airport in Rome to our hotel in San Quirico D'orca. I think the only vehicle that I can remember as "American" was a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was parked out back of our hotel, Hotel Residence Casanova.
That must be fun driving on those narrow roads. That would have tickled me to see you cruising around the curve as our charter bus approached. Awesome! Dean
