motor mount stool question
I am not sure what to call them, but I am wondering which are the correct motor mount brackets (stools) for my 72 Cheyenne, 350 engone, ps, pb, & air. Obviously this is the metal mount that bolts to the frame & front crossmemeber and that the engine bolts to. I think the mounts in my truck are for a 1973 and later truck. I have been told that there was only one set of mounts, pictured in the garage, and I have also been told there are two different mounts, the ones in my truck and the ones in the garage.
Are there two sets of motor mount brackets or only one? I believe the mounts shown in the photo in the garage being painted are the correct factory mounts, am I correct? Thanks for the help.

The clean pretty ones are proper for a small block as long as they align with all three of the forward set of holes. They look very similar to inline 6 cylinder mounts, so you have to make sure they align with the forward set of holes and not the rearward set of holes like the 6 cylinder ones will.
The ones installed in the picture look like factory 72 big block mounts. Very desirable to big block guys.

This maybe a dumb question, but can a small block be mounted on big block stools?

Are the 72 small block stands like the 67-71 SB stands?

No, the 67-71 big block stands have a sag in them to allow exhaust manifold clearance that the small block ones don't.
If you go to the FAQ section, I wrote an article detailing this with good pictures to illustrate. The article is called "big block motor mounts on the cheap" or something like that.

Actually I believe the SMALL BLOCK stands are the same 67 to 72. The 68 to 71 BIG BLOCK stands do have a dip as mentioned by Texas Firefighter to clear the exhaust manifolds. I believe there is some clearance problems using small block stands with a big block and headers. I don't know for sure as I have used only 72 stands.
