Tilt question ?
What is the easiest way to remove the housing ( the part the shift handle connects to that rotates) from a column ?

As far as I know there is no easy way of removing it. Disassembly involves things like using a puller to remove the turn signal switch housing, using a big 12-point socket to remove the thin nut off the top of the steering shaft, pulling the pivot pins out of the sides, etc. The GM chassis maintenance manual has excellent instructions on how to do this.

I agree with pjmoreland, there is not an easy way to remove the shift tube.
Are you down to removing the shift tube or have you started disassembly yet? The shift tube is a press fit in the upper retainer and must be gently driven out. The manual suggest a driver that fits the top end. If you have never disassembled a tilt then getting a manual is an excellent way to go. Jim |
