Will a lift Decrease Value?

This may turn in to a long story, but need to get out what I am thinking. I have always wanted an old Jacked up chevy 4x4. An looked for one for about a year. I am from South Texas and rust is bad so everything in my budget I found was a bucket. Until I found a 1970 one owner 80 year old man. Everything is original, besides fresh paint, and a new wood bed. there is no rust, and the motor is original and runs and drives great only 70,000 miles on a 35 year old truck. I paid $3800 for it and thought I got a steal. Anyway now I am scared to put a lift on it. For one I dont want to screw up driveability or anything else. But the main reason is I dont want to decrease the value of an original classic. I wont wheel it much at all, just want to know what it might do to the worth. Also did I get as good of a deal as I think. 1970 1/2 ton 4wd 350 standard AC NO RUST.

I don't think adding a lift and tires and wheels would hurt the value if done right.

Keep the original parts. If you decide to sell the vehicle you can offer the original parts as part of the deal and let the next owner decide if they want a truck or a show queen.

I think that you got a good deal, and agree with the comments above about "do it right and keep the original parts."

Like others said, depends upon the buyer. Young guys often like a lifted truck with big tires more than a mild stocker. One fully restored 70 Chevy SWB K10 4x4 on ebay was lifted four or six inches (I forget which), had a BBC427, and other goodies with perfect paint top to bottom. It went for over 20k. I also think 4x4 buyers are more accepting of well done mods like lifts, larger tires, lower gearing, etc. There are more concourse-restored affeciandos among 2wd truck enthusiasts.

My best advice: If you intend to keep the truck long term and drive it, make it exactly as you want so you'll enjoy it. If you go through autos like rakes go through girlfriends, keep it in its most valuble, original state.

And, yes, it definitely sounds like you got a steal.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I do plan on keeping it awhile. If there is gasoline around another 15 years I would like my son to drive it. He is ony a year and half, but he already likes big trucks. I will post pictures of my truck a soon as I get around to it.

Congrats on your find. Can't wait to see pics. I don't think a mild 2",4" or even 6" lift, shrinks the pool of potential buyers much. But the higher you go the less peeps will consider it when it's time to sell. "Take her and make her your own", as the song goes. If YOU want a lifted truck and you're going to keep it awhile, then do it. But definately save the original suspension components.
