third brakelight
Has anyone put in a third brakelight behind cab, if so what did you use for the light. I think this would be a cool mod. Pics if you got'em.

i tell you guys what,if you use a cargo light,but wire it to your brake lights,and use those red taillight bulds that are for the clkear taillight lenses,it works just the same,only it looks factory

Early Classic has an LED conversion for the cargo light. Lets you look stock while still having the 3rd light.

i have seen a caddie ,99 stx or sumthing i think the guy said it was, rear third brake light on the back of a 67 cab before looked good it was frenched in the back of the cab and was smooth with the cab above the roof seam

i've got a 2000+ Ford superduty unit. works great. it is a third brake light and cargo light combo. the contour is perfect, but it is not as centered as i would have liked (it's closer to the top of the roof than in the middle). my fault, it would have worked if i'd been paying attention. i wired the cargo light seperate - to a toggle switch, but the third brake part was easy. will try to remember to photo tomorrow.

I modified a cargo light a few years ago and turned it into a 3rd brake light, while still keeping the white light capability.
After that, all of a sudden the aftermarket started selling them. |

Mid 90's Chevy truck
This is from a mid-90's Chevy. Be sure to get the wiring pigtail that goes with it. No big deal to wire it up just ground one of the brake light leads and run the other one to the brake light switch at the brake pedal. Wire up cargo light wires just like the factory cargo light and you're good to go. Using this you still have the cargo lights plus the third brake light. You will need to make the hole larger in the back of the cab or drill two more holes to accept the fixture.

I`ll probably get flamed,but...I guess it`s cool and all.But,being the rebel that I am,I don`t get why rodders and old car/truck guys are so eager to go out of their way to add a Federally mandated modern item to their vintage vehicle.They shave trim,door handles,rain gutters,and do everything to simplify and smooth the lines,then add this.I don`t see anyone running out to fit side markers on their rides.Don`t get me wrong.It doesn`t bother me.To each their own.I even like some of the jobs done myself.On my`95(which already had a 3rd brake light/cargo light combo)I fit a Tahoe LED unit to compliment the LEDs in my utility bed.Converting the cargo light on these trucks is a ready-made way to go.Not a bad idea.But, my customs will be smooth(no cargo light)and my originals original(all the way).I know it`s me.But,if some redneck from East Bumfart came up with the 3rd brakelight idea,I`d probably like it.But,if the government tells me I have to do it,I want to get around it.

Actually,I like it,too.I was just voicing a thought I`ve had for a long time since I first saw guys cutting into steel-bodied rods to pop a light in.It is safer,especially with old vehicles that don`t have the brilliant lighting of new stuff that people have become programmed to.

I just used my cargo light as allready mentioned. I cut a piece from an old red tail lense i had laying around to fit inside of the cargo light lense. Easier ways to do it but when you are bored and you have junk laying around, you make things. Main reason i did it was because i really did not use the cargo light as is, but then as a bonus also gives me that extra visibility when stopping.

The one I used on a previous '69, and what I am about to install on my current one is off of the last year-or-so Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickup...or Ram-50 mini truck. It is two or three rows of LEDs (roughly 1.5" tall and 12" wide) and fits the contour of our cabs very nicely....and bright as everything.
