What did you get done?
This was a pretty hectic week since I was trying to get cauf=ght up from all the days I lost due to Hurricane Rita. Since my wife was out of commission I had to work alone this week.
Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday was spent watching my daughters middle school volleyball team play their tournament. The made it to the final four on Saturday. This was pretty exciting since the top four teams were made up of players from my daughters club volleyball teams. The end result is they couldn't work together as a team and wound up in fourth place. That's not bad, but it should have been better based on the talent they have on their team. Two weeks ago the beat the second place team with ease. Oh well, it just wasn't their day. I had planned to go to Goodguys in Ft Worth but that got cancelled due to the tournament on Saturday. I had a couple of buddies that were going to debut their latest hot rods there. What did you get done? Steve Green rolled out his latest truck project. More pice here

I turned most of this:
Into the heap in the back of my crew cab: I saved the interior, the glass, the engine and trans and the front suspension for my project truck. The rest went the way of the sawzall...

I spent about an hour or two on Yeller today...mounted up my drop down battery tray. I would have worked a little longer on it, but I cut open my knuckle pretty good when the wrench slipped...so I called it a day.

I repacked my front wheel bearings and found I have a bad lower ball joint on the driver side. Did get my yard aerated and seeded this weekend too. Took a couple 50 mile trips in the burb, new tranny is doing great.

I spent a couple hours digging up a side miror that vanished. I want to put the OEM style mirros back on the truck when the new doors go on. I found the other mirror but cant seem to locate the brackets or rubbers.
Also rebuilt and recurved the dizzy for the 86. The dizzy was totaly jacked and the bushing came out. I used the older electronics in a newer ESC setup and slaped in a adjustable vac can and new springs. Works great. Next weekend I'm going to find the clear signal lights that are floating in the garage. I always find one put it back then find the other then loose the first one.

Let's see. Friday, I went to the muffler shop and got my exhaust all welded up and the hangers welded so I could take off the shotty looking muffler clamps. I am in love with the sound of my exhaust now. It's quiet for the most part. Still louder than stock but this is to be expected with headers and all. Saturday went to Advance auto parts and used the coupon posted my XXL.
http://207.44.196.117/vboard/showthread.php3?t=175122 Anyway, I bought a red caliper painting kit made by Duplicolor. I spent the rest of Saturday cleaning and sanding off the rust on my new rotors. Painted the rotors with some Ralley silver paint I had and used the kit to paint the calipers a beautiful red. Painted the pads gloss black. This was the fronts. Today, I had to help the wife put a fancy dancy bird house on a post in the yard. In the meantime I was working on painting the rear calipers and rotors. Right in the middle of it all, my sister-in-law asked me to go over to her house and cut off some of her counter tops in the kitchen to get ready for her new appliances. She had a drop in oven and is replacing it with a regular unit, so I had to cut out the back of the top and the base of the cabinet. I didn't have to take any pains with it all since she is also getting some new counter tops. I still didn't finish my rear rotors and calipers. I'll finish tomorrow evening, maybe.

The switch for the key cylinder under the dash was weird.
It was an upside down switch and my original unit, I swapped them-temporarily, would start the engine when you turn the key to Locked position!!! That freaked me out, as I had the trans lever off and it was engaged in drive!!!! Anyways, I reinstalled the switch that was on it and the wiring ended up being reversed vs the original installation. The power 12-volt source is towards the wheel vs towards the firewall and the connection is upside down too! All too weird but eventually I got it down! It works!

I didn't get anytyhing truck related done this weekend either. I did go pick up our new (to us) boat today. We were supposed to go to Houston last weekend to get it, but the hurricane kinda got in the way. Got it home and got it cleaned up. This should make a pretty nice boat. It is a 20' Thompson Carrera 200. No pics yet, though, as it got too dark.
Next weekend I should get the trans finished up and a tuneup done on the Jimmy, though.

Had 10 little girls over for a slumber party for my daughters 8th birthday. Come morning was ready to call the insurance company. The dogs were freaked out and no one got any sleep. My daughter said it was her best birthday ever. Spent Saturday counting the dead and cleaning up the carnage, then the family came over for that phase of the birthday party. The girl now has more cash than I do. Trying to convince her she needs parts for my truck but she's not buying it. On Sunday everyone slept!

manual labor
On my "weekend" I started my new fence installation which will inclued a covered area on the side of the house for the Burb. I have gotten all but three holes dug due to some nasty clay soil. It is packed so much I may have to resort to a jackhammer. The resent heat hasn't made it any easier either. The posts that can be installed have been and some fence boards have even gone up. All in all I am moving along slow and steady.
I also had to try to convince my wife to let me buy a "donor" suburban even though I have absolutly no where to put it. I just can't pass it up. Next week... more fence. |

I really like that box Jeff. Too bad NHRA would probably have a cow when I tried to Tech in with it like that...
Non truck related, I watched my nephew's football game saturday morning, then went to my neices 6th birthday party at this gymnastics place where I reminded myself just how out of shape I really am. Sunday consisted mainly of studying for class. Late last week I rolled the truck out and spent about an hour with the industrial power washer and 248* water cleaning up the underbody and frame. I think I'm just going to get a quart of the spray ready eastwood OEM frame coating and go to town with that. Hopefully today (monday now) I can get down to get some body adhesive because I found mine was old and junk when I went to put my filler panels on the firewall sunday afternoon.

This weekend i tinted the back glass, 5%, and attempted a 5" strip on the windshield, had to pull it back off. Replaced the powersteering pump and installed a Summit power steering pumpbracket to correct the alignment, though i saw a thread about that somewhere, i ended up haveing to use a 77 C-10 PS Pump with the threaded hole in the (facing the rear of pump) 5 o'clock position. Put on new alt & PS belt while i was at it. Going to Pipe's U Pull it today to locate various parts. I'm taking more pics today to post as well. A couple of months ago i used the roll in bedliner to redo the inside of the cab from the firewall to the bottom of the back glass.

Not much of anything really. Sat in both the '86 and '70 thinking about things I want to do when I get some $$$$. Other than that, just regular chores around the house.

I spent some time evaluating some Dashes Direct 73-80 and 81-87 dashes. I ordered 10 for sale on the site and some of them could use some improvement, so hopefully they will work with me and make this a better product. They have GREAT potential for being a restoration piece, but right now, they are just replacement quality.
On battery boxes, I bought this one a LONG time ago: http://www.performancebodies.com/sto...&dept%5Fid=610 But I have the one Jeff has also. I have decided to use that one. If you think the one Jeff listed would fail tech because of the drop down, the one I listed might work for you. If you want it, I will sell it to you.
