Transmission Question, 66 Chevy PU
Need a little help. My brother just bought a 66 Chevy PU with a blown 3 speed tranny. We picked up a 3 speed out of a mid 70's chevy truck, but it won't bolt up properly. All the holes line up OK, but I can't get it any closer than about 1/4" from the bell housing. Is there a difference in clutch shaft length from the 66 to later models? I'm kinda stumped on this one.

Not sure about your question, but I have a 3 speed transmission that I would like to sell. I bought a 1967 GMC 305 V6 from slammed67 and it came with a 3 speed. I have a 4sp in my 4x4 and do not need it. The transmission has less than 20,000 miles and looks like new. I will take $100 firm and can ship it to you. You pay actual shipping and I will box it.

Only one way to find out about shaft length. Take the tranny out and measure them both. Should tell you all you need to know. Also check to see if the pilot bearing is ok. Maybe the shaft is bigger around than the old one. And wont fit properly in the pilot bearing.
