Clutch help PLEASE!

My clutch is acting very strangely. First I couldn't get it into gear after starting the truck.. the gears would just grind. I just drove the truck home from the first shop that Iwent to. They told me my pressure plate had bent prongs, so I decided to pull the engine and change the clutch. Went I went to drive the truck home, I COULD change gears, but when I got the clutch almost to the floor it would get stiff, then sortof pop and go the rest of the way!!!! Has this happened to anybody else. I'm about to pull the engine, but was wondering if maybe just some linkage could be bent or something. Thanks for any ideas!

pop your hood, and look down under the firewall on the drivers side. Where the linkage goes on the little pivit ball, check to see if that is fubared. I've seen that piece bend and cause what you are describint. Have an assistant (old lady) depres the clutch pedal while you look at it.

YEah, for some reason, with this particular truck and the 4 speed, it is easier to pull the engine. Don't know if there is some weird crossmember in the way or what. That's what a mechanic told me anyhow, and it only takes me a few hours to pull the engine, so thats what I decided to do. Plus... I've done it a few times so I'm familiar with the process - never tried to drop the tranny. The last guy that did my clutch that way dropped the 4 speed muncie on his hand... ouch! ANYHOW, upon removal of the engine I found that the clutch disk was SCREWED!!! big time. The center bit was broken and could be spun within the disk. hahahah ANYHOW! thanks for the help.
