Aternator wireing
OK, When my engine isn't on my lights are low and turn signals sometimes don't work. When the engine is running, everything works fine, infact better. I figured it could be the alternator, I used a light tester on the red wire that connects to the back of the alt. and it lit so I know that isn't the problem. I tried to test the blue and white wires that connect to the terminals on the side of the alt., and they do not light up the tester, is this normal? I tried it while the engine was running and the same as above. My girfreinds dad told me that with all the wires connected correctly, I could remove the Positive (+) battery cable and the truck should continue running, if it didn't then something was wrong with the alternator. Well, I did this and the engine kept on pumping as it had been, no shutting off, or change in performance. Help me out guys, it seems like the battery isn't being charged, but the red wire does that right? So according to my testing it should be charging....I dunno help me out guys!!!!

Actually,
Your best bet would be to find a multimeter, preferably a digital one. Then start the truck, and do a voltage test across the battery. You should have ideally 13.8 volts going to the battery when the alternator is charging. TJ
