Fuel Injected 5 Speed

Alright here are the questions

New project - Pull Truck - 71 longbed, 4x4, Dana 60/14 w/4.56, Fuel Injected BBC, 5 speed manual,divorced 205, 35'' tires, 8'' lift

1. Has anyone had any experience with Edelbrock's Pro-Flo EFI systems?? Looks good but would like some real world knowledge before I drop $$

2. 5 speed manual - Need/want 5 speed cause of gearing, thought 5 speed manual would be the easiest option. How easy is it to drop in a newer (1999 on up) 5 speed. Electonics ??

3.what does 8'' lift look like on these trucks - could I still pull a gooseneck or do I need to stay somewhere around 6''

After I figure this out the rest is easy then I only need to decide - color

thanks guys

What 5 spd are you planning on using? NV4500?

What about a NV5600 or ZF 6 spd?

I think I'd want a 6 spd if I was going stick for a project like that, I am going to use a 9 spd Eaton in my next truck

Help me out a little and tell me the differences in the ones mentioned, also it is whatever I can get my hands on. Is a NV4500 a chevy 5 speed from the late 90's??

It would also have to be able to handle the bbc which should be 400-425 hp at flywheel

thanks

The nv3500 was used on c1500 in the early 90's and in the 4.3 s10's.

I have a 92 c1500 with the nv3500 tranny and I just got another nv3500 for my 70 c-10. The main difference in the different nv3500's is the shifter location. It is at the rear on s-10's and more in the middle of the c1500.

A NV 3500 will never stand that kind of horsepower he is talking about.

Much less the towing...

I'd go for an NV4500 or (if you don't need the 4x4) a T-56 which will net you even better mileage (.53? OD ratio in 6th gear)

I believe a t-56 is out of a camaro. I'd stick with a nv4500 5 speed.

8"s of lift with 35's is too much lift. I have 8" and 38's

I'd go either 4" with minimal triming or 6" with no trimming, as low as possible if you're wanting to tow with it.

Steve,

I thought 8'' would be to much, now only problem is I have a brand new set already, maybe I can trade someone. It is looking like six inches is what I want to go with, will slap the eights under it and see what it looks like. Dont plan to tow all the time just occasionly when needed (once a month)

Blue 4x4 - Nice setup! How do you like it ?? How involved was it to install?? Does it have good throttle response?? If you had to do it again would you just invest in a qaulity carb??

Thanks for your help guys, only want to do this one time

NV4500=5spd in 3/4tons(GM is still using them behind the 6.0 I believe)

NV5600=6spd behind the Cummins in Dodges, I personally would look at one for what your doing. I don't know if anyone offers an adapter to put one behind a GM block, but they are more than strong enough for your BBC.

ZF 6 spd, can't recall the #, but it is used with the 8.1 and Durajap in 3/4 tons now. My neighbor has one behind a Durajap in a GMC and it is a nice shifting transmission I think.

3500 or t-56 WON'T work IMO, you'll tear it up before supper if you tow loads like I do. Even the NV4500 is weak behind a Cummins if you got some tweaks done on the engine. Probably why I'd look at a 6spd. My next truck will be a '67-'72 GMC cab and front clip on a 4x4 IH or Ferd 2-ton chassis, I am going to be running a 6-71 Detroit with nothing less than a 9 spd out of a big truck. Trannys seem to be the weak link in trucks anymore.

An 8" lift, even with only 35" tires will not mix well with a gooseneck trailer. Unless the trailer is lifted too, you would be likely to tear up your tailgate and your bedsides. Also the trailer floor will be at a pretty steep angle if you will be hauling livestock. Even the 6"/35"s for gooseneck, IMO won't work very well.

Looks like NV4500 is the most cost effective way to go..... so the hunt is on!!

Now for the Fuel Injection, haven't recieved a whole lot of feedback?? Is it worth the money for the reliablity and cold start factors, also is performance the same as a good carb??

T56 came stock in certain year corvettes, camaros and firebirds. I was under the impression that they were a very strong (gasser) transmission, although behind a modded cummins/dmax putting out 700+ ft/lbs of torque thats a different story entirely...

6600DURAMAX....The install wasn't that bad. it took 2 guys all weekend 20hrs. I like the throttle responce. There is still a few issues with the programing under a load. I'll be consentrating on it this weekend to get the final bugs out of it. But what I have seen and felt....I'm impressed. As far as the $$$$ for the kit? I'll let you know after I finish the complete project.
