Question How do you know where to mount new mirrors?

I'm swapping from elephant ears to the small ones, but I'm not sure where to find the dimensional data to tell me where to drill. Anybody know?

I have the "'67-'71 Assembly Manual as well as a 1972 shop manual, but I don't see that detail anywhere.

There is a difference in the location of the left and right mirror of about an inch. I can't remember which side is set further back but I'm sure someone else can furnish that information. The penciled line is one inch below the bodys line. These are for right hand side.

Talking

I just measured one of our trucks that has factory installed sport mirrors and the left side, (driver's side) is 6 5/8" from the door edge to the front of the base gasket. The right side, (passenger's side) is 7 3/4" from the door edge to the gasket. So as Stroker mentioned one is set back further than the other, (passenger's side).

The pass side mirror being set back would only make sense since you would have to look around the wing window pillar if it wasnt....

Just my $.02
