LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

I haven't been around the board for awhile and it seems I cannot do a search. It says search dissabled when I click on it.

Anyhow, I'm doing a LS1 swap into my 69, and I am wondering how some guys hooked up the throttle cable.

Thanks for any help

Terry

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

This is heavily dependent on what year the motor is. I believe it's different for '03+. It was suggested to me to buy a '98-02 LS1 because the '03+ need to be converted to use a cable.

For best bets and info, head to ls1tech.com and ask there for more details.

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

Shifty, thanks for the info.
I have a 98 motor so it uses a cable. I just read about using a cable type original setup from our trucks. Seems the easiest to do.
By the way I use the same name on the LS1tech site.

Thanks for your help.

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

I replied to your post on ls1tech. I used the original cable from the 5.3 with a pedal assy from a 72 worked awesome. My motor is a 2002 5.3 I am not sure the differences between a ls1 and the 5.3 I used.

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

Dave,

Do you have pictures of that setup? I'd like to see a picture from the inside (pedals), outside (firewall) and any supporting pictures you think might help.

I might be on the lookout for a '72 parts truck here shortly. I'd love to make my life easier.

How did you handle your hydraulic clutch setup?

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

Hey look at that, all three of us go both ways, er... I mean post on both sites
Here is a guys truck and website that I found yesterday. He emailed me with some answers about the gas pedal and clutch assembly. He used a chrysler 300 pedal and modified it to work. He used the factory LS1 hydraulics and put it through the same hole in our trucks that the original clutch linkage went through, then modified the truck linkage to work. Pretty simple really.

Yeah, that's Taylor, he goes by FirstGen and posts regularly at these forums. He's been helping me a lot also. I didn't get a good look at his pddals though (kinda dark) and wanted to see more of what other people were diong.

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

I used the stock cable on my 71 throttle and it worked just fine. Can't tell if you already got the answer, or if I even have an LS1. Just know mine is a tune port. Jeff.

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

well unfortunatlly mine is still the 4l60e. I wanted to do a t56 and may sometime but I had spent more than my share already so I stuck with what I had. It works good I have a mild stall so it is all good.

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

I had my buddy stop by last night with his 72 so we could compare. Like others have said, all that is required is to get the 71-72 padal assembly, bolt it into the truck. It looks like the top two holes need to be re-drilled, the bottom hole may be the common hole. Then drill a hole above the pedal assembly for the cable and thats about it. I'm going to call about a 2000 silverado 5.3 cable today.

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

If I remember correctly, the only difference between the ls1 cable and the one out of a 5.3L is the length. The Ls1 is longer. I am in the process of converting my gas tank from a blazer one with an aeromotive a 1000 to a camaro from a ls1. My engine wasn't getting any fuel.

Unless you are planning a radical street motor or something with a good bit of nitrous, the A1000 is over-kill. You could use a Walbro 255 inline pump and be good for 450 ish rwhp. The Walbro is about half the money... Just a thought.

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

FirstGen, Yeah I knew about the Walbro pump, but was able to get a camaro tank and pump out of a 2002 with 5k miles for $150. This way the pump will never overheat. Here is the thread of someone installed a camaro tank on one of our trucks and also a chevord. Charlie Bob is the one that did the conversions.

So where does the A1000 fit in? It's not a submirsable pump?

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

I know, I was going to use it at first in-line. I couldn't pull any gas out of the tank. I moved the pump around a little and I only got some girgling. So I return the pump and bought the camaro tank. It should be here soon and I will install the camaro tank

Very weird. Did you prime the pump? Sometimes you have to pull gas up to the pump for it to build pressure. I'm running the A1000 Eliminator and Aeromotive fuel reg with a Summit 16 gal fuel cell. No problems so far...

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

Nice tank install.
Would you be able to take a couple of pics of the underside? I am curious as to how low it hangs. I have a tank also, but I was just going to go ahead and install my inline walbro and vette filter/regulator. I may install the camaro tank later.

Thanks
Terry

Taylor,
can you hear the walbro pump running (before you put the headers on?)

Thanks

I'm running the A1000, yes you can hear it run, with or without the loud exhaust. The Walbro is MUCH quieter from the other cars I've put them on.

Thanks Taylor.

Bubba, I don't have a part number but one guy is running a stock 2000 sierra 5.3 cable.

Luckily I still had the truck cable from my not attempted swap. This came off of a 2001 GMC truck 15040848.

Re: LS1 truck swap guys. I need some help.

Bubba, if you can't swing to the junkyard to pick one up, call the guys at Brasington Cadillac ( www.gmotors.com )

Look at the Contact Us section. Call the dealership, ask for "Bill" in the parts section. He should be able to look it up for you if you have a year and engine size. Or you can just give him the part number incoma just listed and see if that's it. You'll get a better price from those guys than almost anyone on the net...

I dont have any pictures of my install yet. That is a picture from Charlie Bob, he is a member on this board as well.
