I'm tire of running out of gas in my 84 chevy pickup
I ran out of gas yesterday for the 2nd time in my 84 chevy scottsdale. I replaced the sending unit in the tank with a new one. I replaced the gauge with one from a salvage yard. Before I did anything to the truck the gauge would sit on E, until it would get empty, and then the needle would bounce. Now it just sits on E. I need Help. How do I test the gauge? How do i test the sending unit. I am tired of Walking. Keep in mind the truck has had many changes over the years, but the electrical under the dash is still stock.
Thank you for any help |

I know this has been covered quite a bit on here. Other than checking your ground connections and sending unit with a test light, I would search the electrical forum for what has already been discussed on this subject. I think you will get some good ideas on what to look for.

lol..........hope you didn't have to walk very far to get some. My gas gauge has been broken for 11 years and I have never run out of gas.... I will fix it one of these days but I will never trust it again. Know how far you can go and fill up the tank!!

Re: I'm tire of running out of gas in my 84 chevy pickup
Thanks For Everones Help. The Problem Was With The Sending Unit Itself. The Metal Strap That Is Connected To The Terminal On The Sending Unit Was Bent Up And Touching The Top Of The Unit. This Was Making The Gas Gauge Stay On Empty. Hope This Will Help Someone In The Future.
