1987 R-10 wirring ?
I'm in the process of doing an engine swap, from a 4.3 fuel inj. to a 383 cui. carb. I got most of the nut's and bolts done, but the wirring is a nightmare for me to figure out. I want to keep it simple as possible, can someone point me in the right direction. Can I use the engine harness from an 1985 C-10?

First 2 the board
If you unhook all the connectors to all the sensors for the 4.3 you can push them all through the firewall where they come through theres a large grommet just right of center. I would not cut any of the wires just find a hole under the dash and tuck & tie them back in there that way if you ever want to convert the truck back you can. Not shure how you will handle the power to your distributor and coil you may have to run all new wiring for that. Since the old dist.&coil are cont. by the comp. You will want to disconnect the electrical connector to the in tank fuel pump so it wont run every time you turn on the Ign. but you don't have to remove it unless you want to. The mechanical Eng. pump or an external ele pump will drawl fuel through it. Since the comp. controlls the trany you may have to install a bypass kit so it will shift correctly unless you are using a differant tran's. If you intend to use any of the stock Eng. indicators your gonna have to rewire them or install aftermarket ones in there place since they get thier info thru the sensors that report to the comp. Also if your truck was equipt with cruise control and you intend to use it, it wont work either cuz it gets it's info from the VSV and sends it to the comp. I think i covered every thing but i may have missed something so someone else may chime in. Good luck |
