WTB 69-70 Grille in good condition

WTB 69-70 Grille in good condition, the new repos are junk. Flimsy as hell and not worth the asking price. I'd much rather have a good used OEM style to work with and possibly have it chromed

Send some pics of what you got.

Re: WTB 69-70 Grille in good condition

The last one I shipped cost me $74.00 to ship. It too was a '70 grill. I about fell over when they told me the cost at UPS. I sold on e-bay and just new $40.00 would cover the cost of shipping. Wrong! But I did get $255.00 for the grill so was not a complete loss. OVERSIZE!!

Good to see you back on line John So if you figure $200 for the used grill plus $75-100 shipping depending how far, when you could get a new GM grill for about $400 shipped to your from gmpartsdirect.com The only drawback is that it is only the outer grill shell. To have something that big chromed is going to cost some big $$$ I would assume on top of the cost of the used grill. I think from a $$ point you would be better off with a new GM grill, my .02 Randy

Re: WTB 69-70 Grille in good condition

but if the shipping price is cheaper than i think i will lower the cost
remember this would be shipped in a wood crate so it may be a little heavy.

Re: WTB 69-70 Grille in good condition

I checked, and unless it is more than 40lbs, DHL shipping will be $48. I guess it all depends on what is used to ship it in. I just got my complete A/C dash in from DHL, wrapped in part of a refrigerator cardboard box. There was no damage to the dash (except for the RUST holes I was not told about) so I see no reason why a grille would be much different.

I am very upset (still) on the condition of the dash...It just bugs me why people cannot either tell the truth OR check things out better. It makes purchasing via pictures very difficult.

Mine was no where near 40# but was told the high cost was because of the oversize. (not the weight) UPS

Re: WTB 69-70 Grille in good condition

Do not use UPS....DHL quoted the cost based on 40lbs, 75" tall X 28" wide X 13" deep. I think the grille may fall less than that??? I do not have one to measure

I also think I may have wrote my last thread based on my frustration with the A/C dash I just received that has rust holes and major denting on the bottom. Granted you do not see it but, I don't build that way. If I can't do it right, I won't do it at all. Thankfully my newly aquired Lincoln Mig will take care of it, just sucks to have to spend an additional couple hours on something I thought was in "GREAT" shape

Re: WTB 69-70 Grille in good condition

i resently sent a delacate set of new door panel inserts to someone here
i thought they were pagaged well but they showed up damaged.
i felt like an a$$ that they didnt get there in the excelant condition.
however the buyer was an excealant person and the transaction still went well considering i baught them back.

on something as delacate and desired as this grille i will pakage it in a way i can asure myself it will get there in perfect condition this may cost a little more on shipping but it will be in one piece
NOT IN A CARDBOAD BOX
I AM NOT A BUSINESS AND CANT AFORD TO BUYBACK MY OWN PARTS TO THROW THEM AWAY. HOWEVER I MAKE GOOD ON ALL MY SALES

I KNOW I WOULD BE FUMING IF I RECIEVED A 275 GRILLE BENT IN HALF

275 IS THE MOST IT WILL COST I MAY BE ABLE TO GET IT CHEAPER BUT I WONT KNOW TILL I GET IT PACKAGED AND YOU GIVE ME YOUR ZIP.
IF YOU PASS JUST LET ME KNOW NO PROBLEM

thanks john

Re: WTB 69-70 Grille in good condition

Today I found two OEM grilles. A 1969 for $450 and a 1971-72 for $475, ouch, but they were nice. No I did not buy either of them.

If someone has a good outer grille I would like to have one. I already have two 1969 inner grilles. Tim

Re: WTB 69-70 Grille in good condition

Mike,
I have fixed outer grill surrounds and painted them like any normal dented body panel. If yours isn't in too bad a shape, it's worth a try, especially when you see the numbers ($$) for them mentioned in the string above.

Use the same principles for regular sheet metal work. You have to be very gentle when you tap out the aluminum. Smooth w/regular bondo and sand entire grill w/600. Use Krylon Flat/Dull Aluminum (can't get it at Wal-mart...have to go to an auto parts store). Don't use that "chrome" paint; looks awful and you can tell right away that it's not the way it's supposed to be. Use Krylon clearcoat over the Dull Aluminum.

When complete, it looks like the finish on a factory Chev truck rally wheel from the 70s/80s.

$10 for 2 cans of spray paint, $10 for a can of bondo, and a couple of hours of doing what we all love to do (work on old trucks)....priceless!!?!?!?!?

"They were nice" I would hope so for that much $$ for used grills!! I sold one a while back for $255.00 and looked new. I did put the new Chevy stick-on letters on the grill because the only thing wrong with the grill was the faded letters. Those new letters are great. I could never paint them back on and have look like new. But you do have to take your time putting them on. I used soap and water so you could move them around till you got them just right.

Mike, as long as you are going to use it and not resell it, I could part with a inner grille for a reasonable price or trade. PM me with your email address. And thanks for the ebay tip. Tim

Speaking of the letters, who sells them? Do they shrink or curl over the years?

I think they are painted on...I have a vinyl plotter and I was thinking of making my letters match the color I decide to paint the truck. I do not have a grille to use as a template yet but, once I get it in and ready to play I will make some.

As far as the life of the vinyl...kinda depends on if you live in Arizona or Idaho. The sun plays a big factor in it's life. There is vinyl available from 1-2 year life up to around 6-7 year life, again depending on where you live.

Mike

P.S. tomatocity, PM sent...It is for my truck, not to sell.
