Horn Button Assembly????
Does anyone have pictures of a complete horn button assembly for a 72? or better yet step by step photos? I have looked at the kits for rebuild for the 3 spoke aftermarket wheels in "chevy duty" etc. and they all have a spring, but I have a stock wheel and no spring. Is there supposed to be one for my year? If so anyone know where to get one? I'm very confused... Please Help.
Thanks, Chris

I don't have any pictures, but you should have a spring of sorts in there. It looks more like a large thin washer that is shaped kind of like a satellite dish. It goes in your steering wheel horn button cavity first, followed by a plastic ring with three cylindrical sections attached to it that the three mounting screws go through.

This may not be a popular answer (haha), but take a look in a LMC catalog. They have some really nice exploded diagrams that will probably be just what you need.

Re: Horn Button Assembly????
The spring washer is pretty much the same diameter as the horn button cavity and has holes in it. Not only does it act as the spring, it also provides the electrical connection for the horn signal when you press the button.

Re: Horn Button Assembly????
After reading replies, looking at an LMC catalog and doing a little digging I think I have all the parts, Now just need to figure out installation order. So just a few more questions...
Does the nylon ring go in before or after the spring plate? Does the ring nylon ring lay flat or do the little posts go down? Does the spring plate (shaped like a satalite dish) go with the curve in or out? Obvious first timer here, appreciate all the help.....

Re: Horn Button Assembly????
I believe the convex side of the spring plate should face you, but I might be wrong. If your horn stays on all the time, then it's probably backwards. You should be able to figure out the correct orientation by finding the spot on it where the little spring post that comes up through the steering wheel from the steering column has worn a dull spot on it.
Next you install the cup that the horn button attaches to (orient so horn button will fit in notch). Then you install the the nylon ring with the posts down. Then install the screws. Last edited by pjmoreland; 10-19-2005 at 09:51 PM. |

Thank You! That makes sence, I looked in the LMC catalog as suggested by another member and it gave a good diagram so I was able to find all my parts but it showed the nylon ring going in first, before the spring and I couldn't figure out how the whole thing was held together. Does it make you feel good to know you saved the day? Thanks again... Chris
