No thanks! I am not selling!!

How many of you guys keep getting people trying to buy your truck? I have had three in the last month. I do not want to sell my truck. But I guess it is really a complyment for them to ask. At least they like the truck. Most of the time I am asked at a gas station. Getting only around 12 mpg does not even make me concerder selling. Was just wondering how many of you also get this now and then? But it does make me feel good.

Re: No thanks! I am not selling!!

I have been offered twice what I paid for the truck. I paid $2,500.00 and have been offered $6,000.00. Of corse I have done a lot of work on the truck and put some $$$$ into the truck but just do not want to sell. Why should I? I would just have to look for another one and I love the one I now have. I love these trucks and am happy with my '86!

Re: No thanks! I am not selling!!

I get asked pretty often if I want to sell mine. I usually just tell them no.

I don't ask how much they are offering because i figure they will just insult me. Everyone seems to think these trucks are just worth a few hundred dollars because they are old.

I already have way too much money in my truck, more than anyone would likely be willing to pay for it. I have spent a lot of money on stuff that you can't see, like all new Moog front suspension, new rear springs, rebuilt transmission, brand new A/C compressor, replacement rubber for the windows, cam, lifters, pushrods, water and fuel pumps, horns, etc. The list goes on and on, though it still looks the same as it did when I bought it.

I guess I should just decide what it would take to talk me into selling it, and quote that figure when someone asks. That would leave me with enough money to do up another one, only without all the mistakes I made on this one.

Re: No thanks! I am not selling!!

Funny, I'm the guy always asking!!!
And yes, I am a classic lo-baller too. It feels lame for me to ask, then when they say how much you offering, I have to start low. But you never know what someone is willing to sell something for.

I asked the guy thats owns the rental next door (older retired guy) if he wanted to buy some parts for his 2wd swb that was a little rough, running and looking, and he said how about I buy it from him. I declined becasue at the time I had too many other projects and not enough driveway.
About a month later I see a guy at the gas station driving the truck with primered panels where the bent ones used to be and he says he bought it for $350? Yes I kicked myself for not even asking how much he would have sold it for. I had all the panels to fix it!?!?!

Tonight at the gas station the vehicle in front of me was an 80's 2wd swb that was a little rough looking but mostly straight. The girl came out of the station and put in like $3 of gas. Maybe it was $20 but with gas so expensive it only took about 30 seconds to finish? I was tempted to see if she would be willing to part with it but the passenger was a pretty gruff looking guy so I thought better of it. Besides, I have been driving my GF's honda CRX and they probably wouldn't have believed me that I own a handful already.
And sure enough when she started it it died about 3 times before she was able to get it moving on the road again. Just perfect for me.
Call me a vulture....

Re: No thanks! I am not selling!!

I was at a swap meet and I was selling stuff with my truck next to my selling spot. A guy came up and was eyeballing my truck and asked all about it. He was looking for a "Big 10" and asked if I would sell it? I said how much and he said $2500 cash. I started laughing along with my buddy. The guy looked at me like WTF? I said follow me and I popped the hood. The guy just stood there and couldn't believe in my "farm truck" was an engine like I have. He said no wonder you were laughing.

Re: No thanks! I am not selling!!

Sorry guys, but for the right amount I will sell almost anything. I have the philosophy that everything around my house is for sale except my daughter, my wife and my dog. There are days that my wife and my dog are in question.....

I would certainly sell my truck for the right price, but nobody would want to give me that much.

OK, say someone did offer you what you would have to have for your truck? What would you do with that money? Try to find another truck like the nice one you already have? If I have something I love why sell it? I like these older trucks better than the new ones. How many new trucks turn heads like our "OLD" ones do. I can not even tell a 2005 from a 2000. They all look about the same. You can completly rebuild one of ours and would cost no where near what a nice new one would cost with taxes and all. Buy the way, my daughter and my future Son-in-Law will be heading your way next Friday from California. Have they contacted you again? I know they would appreciated any information on good places to eat ect. He will be doing some work on the new Toyota plant there for a year then they will be coming back to Lexington, Kentucky. It is weired. Toyota is paying for "everthing", down to the wash cloths. They (Toyota) are paying their rent-everthing for the year they will be there. They will have no bills. Must be a good place to work.

I'm with N2TRUX except there are days I might part with the wife and kids. Unfortunately my truck is rough enough no one has asked to buy it.

In Texas, anything more than 24 years old is exempt from emissions. If I could get my money back, I would start with one 25 years or older with a straight body, and go from there. My mistake with this one was to pay a premium price for an ultra clean one, then replace everything anyway because it was all worn out. I should have started with a cheap truck if I was going to replace everything anyway.

Wow. I think I need to look into employment with Toyota...

Your daughter contacted me a few weeks ago and asked for my phone number. She said she would call me when they get here, around Halloween.

Usually if I can get an offer close to what I think it is worth, and I can make money, It will be gone.

Everything is for sale, it just depends on the $$$$$$

Re: No thanks! I am not selling!!

I dont like you people, haha, talking about how people always want to buy yours. No body every wants to buy mine, maybe because its a 4x4 suburban. I have been trying to sell it for about 3 months, and no offers. Before i put it up for sale, i had offers up to $6,000, but i just didn't want to get rid of it. If you know of anybody looking for a Suburban 4x4, I would love for someone to at least ACT interested.
