What was the 11,000# axle for a C30?
I was snooping around the parts computer at autozone. I looked up a few things for a one ton rear, there was 2 listings, the normal, and one for a 11,000# rear axle. Is this the difference between the HO72 and the HO110? What was the ratings of the 3 flavors of that axle? (the 52, 72, 110)

The newer 73+ duallies were rated for 11 500 lbs, but I've never heard of a single rear wheel axle with that heavy of a weight capacity...

neither have I, only as high as 7500# IIRC, maybe it was a dualie they were refering too. The computer did not specify. THere is something bigger than the 72, but my search skills are not good enough to do a search for it

Found what I was looking for on another board.
Not always true...all 3/4 ton 4x4 Chevy's and GMC's have rear leafs, and either the dana 60 or the H052. All Longhorns had leaf springs, 3/4 tonners used the H052 (unless a big block was ordered, then they got the dana 60) and 1 tons used the H072. All Chevy 2wd 1/2 and 3/4 trucks had coils stock. GMCs had leafs stock. But, leafs were optional for Chevy and coils were optional for GMC. All 1 tons had leaves. Above statements for 67-72 trucks only. The H052 and 72 are the same axle with minor differences. Like the 3/4ton and 1 ton 14 bolt. The 1 ton axle will have bigger drums and backing plates. There is also the load bolt, but I am unsure what dictated if the axle got it or not. Some people have said that some of the bearings are different in the H072 axle. As soon as I get my H072 center section (soon hopefully ), I will compare the two. Right now I just have a H052 from a '66 Chevy C20. EDIT: The H110 was an optional axle in C/30 trucks and some step vans. It had the standard 8x6.5 lug pattern, and a massive 12.25" ring gear. I am unsure of axle size/spline count. A quick way to tell it apart from an H052/72 is that the 110 has a welded on diff cover from the factory, & the smaller ones have a bolt on diff cover.

Check out a C50 and you'll see a large top loading Eaton. Heck, check out the 50's Army Deuces.
That's the 11,500 axle. They have bigger ones... |

H052 HO52 H072 HO72 H110 H0110 only H110 works for search seems like [edit] changed the "o" to a zero instead of a letter, now maybe this thread will show up in search

The HO52 and HO72 are the same rears with the 8 lug x 6.5" bolt pattern, except for the pinion load bolt(HO72's and some 52's) and the brake size(HO72 brakes are bigger). The H110 had 10 lugs with either 18", 19.5", or 20" dually rims. It did have a big ring gear and had a welded diff. cover, and the pinion bearings are the ball type, not sleeve bearings like the 52 and 72 have. I made a realization today about something. I think the model number coresponds with the weight capacity of the axle. What gave it away was the H110=11,000# axle. The H052 is 5,200#, and the H072 is the 7,200# axle. That would be my guess on that question.

yup its 10 lug if i could find a 10 lug 4x4 front end i would keep it but i dont think they made a 10 lug 4x4 front end or if i could find wheels to fit the rear that werent split rims i might keep it 2 wheel drive

10 lug front ends are available, you just have to look harder, and in different spots. Try F450 and up pooper duty trucks (10 lug) and prolly GM has em too And John, if the 44=4.4K is true how come the 60F wasnt rated at 6K for the front?

the 19.5" rims are tubeless and you can also get tubeless 22.5's but those might not fit. i've been working on a 1960's step van and it has 8R19.5 tires but it's 8 lug. what size are the wheels on your 69?

I would imagine that the 10 Lug donor would have the rims you need. I dunno if the bolt patterin is tho. Measure yours, we can go from there.
info and pic leeched from kleenwheelsincolor.com determine the bolt circle, measure from the center of one stud hole directly across the center of the wheel, to the center of the opposite stud hole (see diagrams). Measurement should equal the bolt circle diameter. FOR 5 LUG BOLTS (I am putting this in for the search engine, not related to the thread) To determine the 5 lug bolt circle, measure from the center of one stud hole, skipping the adjacent hole, to the center of the furthest stud hole (see diagram). The measurement will be slightly smaller than the actual bolt circle diameter, but may be converted to the bolt circle diameter using the table located below.

The H072 could come with an auxillary spring kit that brought the GVW up to 11000 lbs on the rear...more common on longer 157 wheel base trucks..but was available on the 133 inch dullies also..my 72 1 ton has it.
