With an electric choke if you disconnect the power does it not engage or not disengage. My question is could you put a switch in the power line and turn off the choke in the summertime and back on in winter?

I just unplugged mine, but I had to wire it open ( nothing tested bad, it just didn't open all the way) during the summer, then reversed it for winter.

It will still engage when unplugged/de-energized, but without power it will take longer to come off choke. The power wire helps to heat up the choke coil and open the butterfly faster. I would go manual choke rather than unplug an electric one.

An electric choke will stay closed if it does not get power.

You can adjust them for winter or summer by rotating the choke cover. This changes the amount of time that the choke stays closed. I change mine in the winter to stay closed longer.
