I Have a 70 chevy 4x4 with 12 bolt and 4:10s. I wanted to get a new rear end because mine is going bad, but i was woundering if the rear end out of a 2wd is the same as the rear end out of the 4x4?? Also can i get a 5 lug rear end and take the axels out and put my six lug axels in it? Thanks for all the help james

The rear out of the same year 2wd won't work, as they have coils instead of leaves. But you could weld some perches on it, and the axle shafts will interchange.

yes you can take the 5 lug axels out and put your six lug axels in. the internals are the same. pay attention to the brake backing plates, you may need to change those also.

Thanks for the info. Ya i don't mind making the rear end fit. I have welders and mills and laiths, so making it fit is no problem. its just finding on with 4:10s and the right price. The rear end that is in the truck now is out of a 76 truck wich i had to cut the brackets to make it fit. THANKS

Try shopping on Pirate 4x4 boards, be sure to post your width of spring perches and ratio needed. They have a large member base in Cali and everyone there wants to unload 1/2 ton stuff cheap. They are all into 3/4 and 1 tons for trails & rocks. Good Luck!
