It's a catastrophic success.

Re: shifter trouble

Check the plates that hook the rods to the tranny, they are known for loosening and slipping on the shaft.

Re: shifter trouble

Here's how you adjust the shifter....

First, you have two levers on the trans and two on the shifter lever, right?

Disconnect and remove both the long rods that go between the shifter and the trans.

Now, put both of the trans levers in the middle detent. Each one has three clicks, forward, middle, and back. You want middle.

Now, align both the levers on the shifter handle itself to where they are exactly centered front to rear in their throw and exactly aligned next to each other.

Now, adjust the threaded rod to connect the shifter levers and the trans levers without moving them any.

Install the rods and repin them to keep them from falling off.

Finally, adjust the stop bolts on the shifter itself to contact the shifter levers at full throw, foreward and backwards.

Re: shifter trouble

Tell me if that's confusing, I may be able to restate it another way if needed.

Re: shifter trouble

On the trans, the front lever is 2-3 and the back lever is 1-R

Re: shifter trouble

First off, that's a 25 dollar transmission. If you're in a bind, maybe 50 bucks. The 150 dollar junkyard is trying to screw you.

Second, your trans is stuck in gear, jack the back wheels up off the ground (chock the front wheels for safety). This will unload the drivetrain and likely allow it to slip out of gear freely. If not, tap the levers a bit with a small hammer.

Worst case, remove the 7 bolts on the side cover and remove the whol side plate. This will allow the shift forks to disengage from the shift collars inside the trans.

There's nothing to one of these gearboxes. I rebuilt one on the tailgate of my truck last week. You can get through this and not pay 150 bucks.
