Shift Indicator Light

I've been straining to read my column shift indicator at night. That OE style fiber optic tube is dim at best. I'd love to hear from any of you folks who've improved on this set up.

Thanks.

i dont have the shift indicator fier optic but my 78 blazer did have a fiber optic one going to the ash tray and it was really dim
heres what i did to make it brighter
traced the fiber optic to the light sorce and put in a new bulb and cleaned the end of the fiber optic cable while i was in there(it had black lookin crud on it) and then took the other end of the cable and cleaned it really good too (it had smoke build up on it) the end that hooked to the bulb was kinda far away from the bulb so i bent the tab till it was closer to the bulb but not touching it
you may want to try that stuff and see if it helps ya any

Thanks. I should have mentioned I did all this and it still is quite dim.

Re: Shift Indicator Light

I did about the same as he did. I also cleaned up the indicator part and experimented with different reflective paint and white paint to get more light into the indicator itself. I put in a brighter bulb also. I think it is a 164. I wanted to put an LED in there but they don't dim with the dash lights.

Re: Shift Indicator Light

Fixed mine by using the little bulb and wire from a lighted plastic toggle switch. Just wedged a small piece of hard plastic behind bulb to hold it in the fixture. Repainted the plastic lens with flor. orange. Hook it to your dash lights (grey wire).
