replacing cab body and bed mounts?
How difficult of a job is it to replace the cab, body and bed mounts on a 72 short box 4wd. Where is the best place to buy the mounts and any other advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Scott |

Re: replacing cab body and bed mounts?
I have a 4 page picture article called Cab Mount Basics out of a 1999 "67-72 chevy trucks" magazine that might be good reading before you do it.
My scanner at work will allow me to save this as jpegs or pdfs but I am not sure how to post these for you to read. Posting as jpegs will probably make the words too small to read. If one of the mods could give me directions I could try to post them this weekend. I am replacing my blazer's next week.

Re: replacing cab body and bed mounts?
I'd like to know as well. I plan on swapping all of mine out before I replace my front fenders (this should help a lot with alignment) and I too was wondering what to get. I know there are rubber and poly kits. Which is better and why???

Contact one of the Moderators. It may not be legal to post the whole thing, but if it is it might make a FAQ for the BB.In fact there may already be one.

Re: replacing cab body and bed mounts?
I havn't done that before with the body on,but if I were to attempt it I would remove the bolts on one side of the cab, stick a floor jack under it and gently jack up the cab till the old mount could be removed, replace and repeat.
I don't think there are rubber mounts under the bed.Wasn't on my 72 anyhow. Let us know how it goes and how you did it.

Re: replacing cab body and bed mounts?
go to gmc pauls and get the cab, core support, and bed mounts all in one package. all the nuts, bolts, bushings, and washers come with the kit. the hardest part is taking off the old rusty bed bolts. simply jack up the cab, you may need a brick for an extension. remove, and replace them. for the core support, it's easy with the fenders off.
here's the bed kit if you wanna know what it looks like. |

i am going to jack up one side at a time and replace the pads and bolts. The PO had a steel bed replaced but used the wood bed mounts with the bolts hidden. I have to drill out the holes through the bed floor but have to find where to drill.
