Grant Steering Wheel on van tilt?
I was on Grants website and found a wheel I liked. I got the item number for the wheel and the horn button no problem, but when it came time to pick an install kit, I didn't know what to enter for a year. The truck is a 1972 chevy, and using that info I got kit #3163. The steering column is the van tilt, but I have no idea what year van it would have come out of. Does anyone know what year vans these came out of, or better yet, what model # grant install kit I need? It is just a basic kit for a basic classic/challenger style wheel, not the fancy billet ones. Thanks!

Re: Grant Steering Wheel on van tilt?
72 - 81 van.
However, it'll be the same part number as the truck kit...but please confirm that. |

Re: Grant Steering Wheel on van tilt?
Different kit for the van tilt I put in mine. Dont know what the part number is though. But the adapter I was using on my pickup column would go on but the horn wanted to stay on all the time. So I had a different one that worked.

Re: Grant Steering Wheel on van tilt?
That seems sort of strange to me. Ive always just bought a gm kit & made it work. My kids 96 s10 didnt have a kit available & the one I used said 70something-94 GM truck, car, s10, etc. Im sure it stopped at 94 because it had an airbag. Not any more...

Re: Grant Steering Wheel on van tilt?
I checked the website and this is what I found:
#3163 will do 70-75 van tilt or standard columns #4198 will do 76-81 van tilt columns That's odd that there would be two different kits. Are there any differences in the van columns over the years?

Re: Grant Steering Wheel on van tilt?
Hey Mudd if you are using the tilt I gave you, I am pretty sure that it came from a 76 or later van.

Re: Grant Steering Wheel on van tilt?
The only thing I am aware of on the van columns chainging, is the shifter arm getting shorter, and the turn signal switch going to a flat harnes and the collared push button for the hazzards. And 76 or so does sound about right for the update.

Re: Grant Steering Wheel on van tilt?
Oh, and it is interesting they say 70....since vans did not get a tilt untill 72 acording to my 72 Chevrolet shop manual.

Re: Grant Steering Wheel on van tilt?
Like I said before, I had to use a different kit for mine. I installed it two weeks ago. I dont know what year the van tilt was or what year tilt you are using, All I am saying is mine was different!

Solution
Don't worry about all this. Give Summit a call and they'll give you what you need. It'll also be cheaper I bet.

Re: Grant Steering Wheel on van tilt?
Thanks for the help everyone! Since I got the column off HeavyD, I will take his advice and order the #4198 kit. I'm sure I can make it work even if it is a little different somehow (I'm sure they are all basically the same except maybe the horn or something). Thanks!
