Windshield install.

what would be the best way.
have some one do it. or get the glass an do it my self.talked to a install place and they ssaid they dont want to do it cuase the last one took them 4hrs ....sounds to long to me.

but are there critical steps to this that would require a professional or can i do it my self? they said they can get me the glass but wont install. will cost 120. for the glass. pluss the gasket an any goop i get to seal it. what ya'll thank?
this will get me onestep closer. ..want to get it done next week. thanx. w.

i'd get an pro to install it its hard work to do but 4 hours is too long to me

i did mine in 20 minutes with my son .used new glass and new rubber.but if you have chrome trim install it first

I put one in my 67 with the rope trick around the seal. It was a pain but it did not take 4 hours though. It was my first time doing it and it turned out well (for $120.00 I would do it again myself). If you have the type that has the trim around it it might be different, anyone else done one with the trim?

I have installed tens of dozens of windshields, I use weed eater line...Works awesome with windex. Use plenty of windex and it will help to have a buddy over for a few beers to help. Whatever you do...DO NOT pound the corners when you are trying to get it to go in UNLESS it is to just seal it. If the rubber has not quite made it in and you hit the corners CARACK! Just be patient and you'll be fine, remember windex.

I always start/finish in the top center. Make sure to overlap the line/rope to insure you pull all of the rubber inside. Have your buddy apply a consistant pressure as he follows you pulling the cord, try and have him about 6 inches behind or it makes it bind too easily.

The whole process should not take longer than about 20-30 minutes like fine 67 said, it is a simple process. If you have the chrome trim, it may take a bit longer because the chrome needs to go on the rubber (once you have it on the glass) before you install the windshield.

P.S. I bought my tinted and shaded windshield from Classic Industries for $99 and is awesome (I bought the tinted rear window as well), shop around a bit to find a good price.

I did the whole do it yourself route and the back window came out PERFECT but I cracked the front so.... I would take the front to a pro

I just put one in yesterday. It took me about 30 minutes.

A trick, don't use spray windex for lube, use ZGoop handcleaner. It will stay put and not run off.

I'm scared to death to try. I had a professional come out and try it, and he worked for over an hour and just couldn't get it to go in. Now what? Used glass and new rubber, but still no windshield installed. Cab is straight, not warped.

Is it the same windshield for 67 thru 72? Same rubber for all 6 years?

It's no rocket science. The same windshield fits 67-72, same rubber to.

I never had any formal training installing glass, I just do it. Use the cord like the guys suggested, lube the rubber thoroughly, and go to it. Use a pick tool to finish pulling the flap all the way in.

The rubber can be different if you have the trim. There is shallow and deep groove.

I had an impossible time with mine... simply refused to go in. Changed out the glass for PPG and it almost installed itself.

It might also help to grind down and clean up any protrusions around the frame.
