Talking Gauges? We don't need no stinkin' gauges.

I am gauge shopping and need some input.

I have looked at tpi, dolphin, autometer, classic instruments and stewart warner.

Does anybody know if tpi and dolphin are made in USA? Their prices are much better.

I am looking at black faces, with white numbers and red pointers.

As usual, the gauge that i really like the best is the most expensive and that is classic instruments.

Board members, please shower me with your advice, opinions and stories about gauges.

thanks

All I run. Finest guages in the world. They make a large number of OEM guages too.

http://www.isspro.com/

Not priced bad at all. Very comparable to Autometer. Much better quality though. They will make you any combination of custom needle, background, and bezel color to suit if you don't find one of their products to suit you. They quoted me 15 bucks a guage extra last time I ordered for the custom deal. Real live English speaking phone people too.

I've always loved these Autometers, but I'll check out that place you posted for sure

Re: Gauges? We don't need no stinkin' gauges.

I had to jump out here for this one.

I love guages. I peer down at them every once in a while to re-assure myself that everything is alright. It breaks me out of day dreaming while I drive, if not for just a few seconds at least.

However, I've owned a lot of old cars & trucks that didn't have any guages, and they were fine. Call me hyper sensitive, but after a certain adjustment period as I get used to a "new to me" ride--I always know when something ain't right. I feel something, hear something, or smell something that causes me to pull over and inspect something or look for an "issue". I do trust my senses and instincts where this is concerned.

I feel a cheap guage is ok, as long as it has the look I want. I'm not so concerned if the guage accurate or correct, as long as it's consistent and shows me a baseline of where my vehicle usually runs when normal. Once I'm familiar with where it normally runs, the numbers don't really matter to me.

I guess I just felt like typing this morning and I don't really know where I'm going with this but--I love guages....

Re: Gauges? We don't need no stinkin' gauges.

I just bought a set of the aqua gauges from Dolphin. I haven't installed them but they look great and the quality looks goo too. I bought the 6 gauge set for $150.
