What Tranny does she have??

Hello all.

My 69' has a 4-speed with the compound or granny first gear, non-snychronized.
Can anyone tell me the correct description of this transmission?

Thanks in advance.

Best odds are for the 465. 2 pto covers is the giveaway.

it either a NP435 or SM465. 2 pto's are the easy determination

Re: What Tranny does she have??

look for the little plug on the side next to the shifter. Dead giveaway to distinguish the two apart. The 465 is made by Muncie, I have one in my basement rotting away.

Re: What Tranny does she have??

are there any 4 speeds (with or without the creeper) that had the side shifter linkages? Would I have to use something like a m21 or m22 to get this? Can these transmissions be bolted up to a transfercase?

Re: What Tranny does she have??

To the best of my knowledge the only 4-spd."side shifter" trannys are "car-
models" like the M-21/22, T-10, Ford top loader, Hemi-box, etc. A company
like Advance Adapters would be able to supply a transfer case adaptor to
mate any of those up. However, I am of the opinion that on a large, heavy
4x4 pick-up it would be a big waste of time, effort and money. Just go with a
truck box w/granny gear. There are lots of them out there, reasonably priced
and you can bolt them up using stock parts. Also, they don't brake!!
