removing wiper arms

hey does anyone know how to remove the wiper arms off of a 69 gmc? I know there is like a little tab that is located next to the poll that the wiper arm is attached to, but when I pull that little tab out, the wiper arm still wil not come off.
I am trying to get the leaf gaurd off of mine, but the wiper arms are holding the project up. so any help would be great!

Re: removing wiper arms

I have a tool that I bought (it's a K-D brand) that lifts the wiper arm off of the knurled shaft. It's a small price to pay for such an easy way to get them off of the truck without damaging the paint or the arm assembly. The tool has a plier-type of handle that you squeeze, spreading apart the jaws to lift the arm off of the shaft.

Re: removing wiper arms

Since I probably couldn't find the tool if I had one, I use a mini pry-bar and a red rag.

Re: removing wiper arms

Prybar and a red rag sound like a good idea, just pull up the tab and make sure the base of the wiper arm is straight... Once you break it loose, it should be smooth sailing.

Re: removing wiper arms

I bought it a my NAPA store, several years ago, using it on several different vehicles over the years.

We do what we have to do, in order to get the job done.

Re: removing wiper arms

If you use anti-seize grease on the shafts, they'll be easy to pull off next time! This is one of my all time favorite tips!

Re: removing wiper arms

Yup, your'e on the right track, just pull the tab back and pull the wiper off. I know exactly what you're talking about, mine didnt' want to come off either. I used a right angle flat blade screwdriver to get mine. I was pulling the cowl off for paint so I didn't care if it scratched it.
