283 building questions
How much power can you get out of a 283? What type of carb setup?A 2bbl, 4bbl,3 2bbls .It will be in a 67' 4x4 with 37" or 38" tires and will be backed by an nv4500 5spd.Was thinking it may be pretty efficient and be built to have a good ammount of power.Planning on running propane aw well.Any info would be appreciated.

Re: 283 building questions
I was thinking of building mine with a 305 TPI setup and Vortec heads. I'm not sure about power numbers. Sounds like you'll have a decent running truck there. Do you plan to run a low gear like a 4.11 or 4.56? I know smaller engines like lower gears. Good Luck and keep us updated.

Re: 283 building questions
It's going to be for my little brothers truck. It's going to have 5.14's unless we decide they are too low then we will run 4.56's.We have both sets of gears so it's no big deal.I was hoping to get him some good power an well as be efficient.Plus not very many people have 283's.

Re: 283 building questions
I`d go with an RV cam,low-end torque/economical cruising,hei,1.94"heads,4bbl(no more than 600cfm),headers,and flex-fan.If you`re doing a rebuild,you could go to about 9.5:1-10:1,an over-bore(to a 301),balancing,and porting(along with port-matching heads/manifold).
