How sweet it is...
Well today I decided to at least take off the diff cover so I could say that I started work on the axle (I have a locker and new set of 3.73's on the shelf).
Looky what I found! After I saw this, I decided to check my options sticker which, although barely readable, was still there. If you look hard, the third option on the left shows the rear end. Looks like this thing was built as a farm truck for sure I also checked the block number to confirm what it was (and it IS a 350, whew). I kept thinking about a buddy of mine that bought a Chevelle when we were kids - the guy told him it was a 350 but we found out later it was a 307! |

Re: How sweet it is...
Yep that looks like a 3.73 style posi not a locker to me. Lockers came in the 3/4 ton and 1 tons in this era. Good find..and from what I read on the sticker..the truck didnt come with a 350 as it would have been an option..but if you ran the numbers and it came up as a 350 then you got good stuff in that truck.

Re: How sweet it is...
Yeah the 350 is from a Camaro (or so I was told). According to Mortec it could be a 2 or 4 bolt main...think even though it's in good shape I'm going to pull it (it has a pretty good leak anyway) to throw in the new stroker crank and forged rods so it will be ready for the turbos.
Now I just have to see what gears these are, and decide if I'm still going locker or if I should keep the posi. |

Re: How sweet it is...
BTW, Rod - how would I know what the original engine was (just for kicks)? According to the VIN is was a V8 but that's all I know. I do know it had a 3 on the tree, but it now has an auto with some kind of Olds floor shifter.

Re: How sweet it is...
Looks like the eaton posi unit (limited slip) in my 72 and by the numbers on the ring gear it is a 3.73:1 gear ratio.
