82k5 4x4 Rear main replacement
Forgive the N00biness.
I have an 82K5 that absolutely SPEWS oil. I have never replaced a rear main in a domestic. AM I going to have to pull the motor? or the Tranny?(based on Ease.) I've also heard all I have to do is drop the pan. I'm prepared to do whatever...(except pay 760.00 to have someone else to do it.) Thanks for the responses. |

Re: 82k5 4x4 Rear main replacement
The directions with the seal are to just drop the pan. Irregardless of pulling the motor the procedure is the same. Unless you pull the crank while the motor is out. i.e the top half of the rear seal still has to be slid around the crank if it is still in the block. make sense? does the motor need anything else done to it that can be done while the motor was pulled? I wouldn't pull it just for the rear seal.
