What's missing in my bed?

Just got done taking out that crappy tin bed that they put in down at the school for me. I was planning on going to a fabrication shop here in town tomorrow and a buddy of mine was going to cut me a piece of steel.

The problem that I see is all of my cross supports are gone but one. Am I right to think that there are 5 total on a stepside. I don't care to have them original or not, but I don't want the new steel to not have support. I thought about cutting some angled steel or putting some squared tubing across for support.

Any ideas or comments?

Re: What's missing in my bed?

Thanks Krue, but I only see 4 cross supports on Bill's truck. I don't think I'll need all of them I probably just need a little more support at the rear of the bed. Especially for the steel floor.

Same as me, pretty much the same as Bill's pic. Two at the front, then a dinky little reinforcing strip, then one behind the hump in the frame, then the one under the tailgate/back end of the bed. You can see the tabs for mounting the sills on your frame.

Re: What's missing in my bed?

As you can see in my pic the school welded in two angled steel strips on the side that are a lot stronger than the original ones.

Re: What's missing in my bed?

Did they leave the proper clearance so you can get the wood under those strips and still on top of the rear sill and front panel strip?

Re: What's missing in my bed?

I'm having a sheet of steel placed on top of the two angled pieces on the side of the bed. I just was looking to make sure I had enough support in the middle.

Re: What's missing in my bed?

look in afinished bed and see how many rows of bolts there are. I am guessing two bolts per brace.
