a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3
enjoy, I am still working on the interior.
I am not sure how the quality will be I had to shrink them down quite a bit.

Looking good.
What did you have to do to get the AC compressor to clear? Notch the frame?

Re: a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3
Glad to see you're up and running. I hadn't seen pics of it yet, much nicer than I expected.
Just a thought - you should black-in the vortec lettering on the cover to make it really pop out.

Nice Job, how does it run? What tranny did you use and what rear end ratio? Have you got an idea what your MPG is yet?

Re: a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3
Yes I plan on the AC, the compressor fit with no notching of the frame however I have have to grind it some to get the hoses on the factory ones will not fit and I am not sure if some custom ones will or not but it will be working before next summer. The engine is set way back so that helped on the AC clearance as well as the vette manifolds.
It runs very strong it is still stock I want to do a cam change but will wait for a while. I just painted the engine cover and yes it will get a lettering change Red would look good I was originally thinking Black but I may rethink now. I would like to find a different one but this works just fine. Thanks all for the compliments it has taken a long time to get this far. Dave

Re: a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3
I used the 4l60e tranny with 3.73:1 gears I hope to get 20 or so MPG but I have only put around 600 miles or so and havent had a real need to check...but I will

Re: a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3
That motor sure looks familiar..... My 00 Z71 gets right at 15 city and 18 highway. If my big heavy x-cab 4x4 can get that, you should be able to get a little better if you can keep your foot out of the gas.
I love bright yellow trucks (and 69 camaros) with lots of chrome for some crazy reason. It just screams "LOOK AT ME!"

Re: a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3
Dave,
That is a very, very, good job. Its hard to appreciate all the work and customization that goes into a project like that. Hats off, Even if it doesn't get 20MPG, you'll still get a very smooth and strong ride. Not to mention the relaibilty of the Vortec. I love it - My 72 Chevelle is Canary yellow with Black SS stripes and it turns the heads. TS |

Re: a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3
Thanks all for the compliments, I am at home with a slow connection so I will need to post more from work
The color is really cool it is the millinium yellow with sunset pearl in the first clear coat. It really pops in the sun. The install did go very well it was not completly intended but my TPI 327 blew up before it hardly even ran so since the crank was bad and it was already .060 over i decided to take this route it is a very smooth and nice running new style "327" Those covers are cool 68 short step but those are on the ls1 or ls6 style intake mine is the truck intake so it takes a diferent style but have him look at a truck or two to see what he might come up with. Thanks again Dave
