Re: SALES code decoder
You can check the FAQ section, I think there were some posted there for a couple of years of the trucks.

Re: SALES code decoder
I have tried to use the FAQ, but I did not find what you were talking about. I think I am having a "thick" moment here, but searching the FAQ yielded nothing about option codes or seles codes, just stuff about board setup, avatars, etc.
I dont see tech articles at all. Am I looking in the wring place?

Re: SALES code decoder
The Red Book available from motorbooks.com has the option codes for most things in it and is handy sized (it fits a large pocket)so you can carry it to the wrecking yard or to look at a truck so you can determine how rare some of the options are.Just remember not to buy from the guy that has the "RARE" three door option suburban.

Re: SALES code decoder
Okay, here is what I am trying to do.
The third from the bottom on the left side describes a optin package and I do not know what that consists of. I am trying to figure out what kind of rear axle I have and since i have seen so many other option stickers with that info. on them, I figured it must be buried in one of the option or special equipmet packages. Here is a picture of my axle. Perhaps that will help i.d. it too. What do you guys think......Oh and thanks for all the replies so far.

Re: SALES code decoder
What you have is a Highlander optioned truck. Highlander optioned trucks were late 72 model year only. They were a "special promotion" to help sell trucks. You have the package "C". Look at the picture about the option packages and it will tell you what it came with.
Your rear axle is a Dana 60 and the gear ratio should be a 3:54 ratio, it was standard behind a Big block unless a different ratio was ordered (your option sheet does not list an optional gear ratio). I hope this helps you on your truck.

Re: SALES code decoder
Thanks for the good info. on my D60/3.54 guys.
I have heard that the D60 comes with "factory trac lock", but I am not sure it came on all versions, especially this one, and I am trying to find out. Yes, My rig is a 72 with highlander seats, but it has been OOC for nearly 4 years, and I am just getting her back to gether and ready to turn the key. Last thing I did before putting it in storage was run the new eng/trans on a stand and tune the carb before fogging the Bjesus out of it. Meanwhile I gace the crank a quarter turn every 9 months. sure hope it isn't froze up. Here is a recent engine shot. I can probebly get some body shots later this week. thanks.

I wouldn't expect your engine to be locked up - sounds like you took good preventative measures.
Beautiful truck btw.

Re: SALES code decoder
Looks like a nice truck. I have never seen a "locker" in a rear end unless it was listed as an option.

Re: SALES code decoder
The manifold is painted with high temp silver paint - The can said it was good for exh. manifolds, but I already found some flaking areas. I would't do it again - I think I may shot peen it next, but I am also hearing about ceramic coatings.
I got a friend who has a kiln, and I am wondering if it is painted with ceramic glaze then fired in a kiln, wouldn't that make it heat resistant from then on? Cast iron takes about 4500 degrees to melt and ceramic glaze melts at 2300 degrees. I don't even think a hot manifoild gets near that, but I could be wrong - I just dont know. Does anybody here know?
