454 SS Wheels and lowering?

This is actually two questions that are kind of related put in one post.
1. Has anyone ever put those nice polished slotted looking wheels on a 67-72 that came factory on early 90's 454 SS trucks? Are they the right bolt pattern and backspace, or will they fit at all? Also anyone have any pictures of them on one of these trucks? Did they come on any other models but the 454 SS?

2. If I do the nicer wheels, I also want to lower my truck, but only 2-3". Which is the better option to lower my truck in the front, coils or spindles? Coils are cheaper, but which is easier and/or the better option? Thanks!

Re: 454 SS Wheels and lowering?

Aren't those chrome wheels the same as the ones seen on a zillion early 90's trucks? If so they will be easy to find. I have seen 1988 and up trucks use older style 15x8 ralleys, so I am pretty sure those newer wheels will fit on your truck.

The wheels fit fine. As a matter of fact, there are several members on here with those wheels on the early trucks.

Re: 454 SS Wheels and lowering?

I agree those wheels will look great. They don't seem to be as easy to come by as some think.

GM offered them on the 454SS, Sport package and select trim levels for a few years.

Good Luck

Re: 454 SS Wheels and lowering?

I like those wheels I think they look good on our trucks. Only problems is do they make them in 6 bolt? Im pretty sure they don't but just want to make sure.

Re: 454 SS Wheels and lowering?

As far as I know they were only 5 bolt. Went on the 1990-1994 SS 454 pickups

Correct, only 5 lug and they were available on non-SS trucks as well

Re: 454 SS Wheels and lowering?

muddpile- To your lowering question. Just cut ONE coil off and that will give you 2 inches in the front and then get some 3-4 inch rear springs. Cost you about $100 for the rears and the best part about the fronts are they are FREE!

The front coil cutting would work for me, but the rear of my truck is a leaf spring . It hauls good, but its a lot harder to lower (except a flip kit which drops it too far).

Didn't wes post some pics of one of his customer's trucks? It was a copper 71 or 72 with those wheels on it.
