Will a 72 K20 axle (dana 44?) fit on a 77 k10?

quick question- will a 72 k20 axle (dana 44?) fit on a 77 k10? Are the springs the same width apart, etc.? I owe the PO of my 77 stepside the front axle, and may buy a 72 k20 for parts. Thanks very much!!

Yep, the front axle will bolt right in place with no mods. The rear axles do have a different spring width though.

excellent, thank you! Isn't the 72 the closed knuckle design (less desirable?)

Nope. The 69 was the last year that you should find the closed knuckle Dana 44.

So it should be the same then as my 77ish K20? Not a bad axle if you ask me. Just a step below a dana 60. This 72 does have the useless Eaton rear. I think the frame and running gear is original, after looking at it yesterday. Thanks Jack!

Sorry Adam, no offense meant. Just saying that for the purposes of buying this truck, that's not a high demand part (I don't believe). Let me know if you want it

haha, i think shipping would kill the deal. I think they're pretty neat. Just went and test fitted 14 bolt shafts into mine today.

Keep in mind the 72 d44 uses smaller shafts andu-joints and the hubs don't seal worth a ****. Just let him know its out of a 72 so when he needs parts he won't be baffled.

Hi Doug. No, I was going to use the 44 to roll around what was left of my 77, that's all. Thanks for the info!
