I'm planning on doing a tune up to my truck this weekend so I need to make a run to the autoparts store. In an effort to get everything in one trip, I was hoping you all could let me know what else I might need. The oil was changed a few weeks back so I don't need to do that.

Here's what I have on my list so far - let me know what I'm missing.
Fuel filter
PCV valve
Plugs
Wires
Cap
Points
Rotor
Condenser

Air filter.

PVC filter in the air cleaner if equipped and maybe a fuel filter.

why not just throw an hei in there. u need all new parts anyhow. now would be the perfect time to do the swap

Your list looks good...cableguy's advice is dead on.
I won't even consider owning a vehicle with points.

My '69 has HEI (brand nen). The '72 is so stock, I hate to change it. Someday, I might change it, but for now I'm stickin' with stock.

Can you get the PCV filter at the autopart stores still?

its not like you cant undo an hei install. its not near permanent. you can usually pick up a used hei for about 35 bucks. then would only need hei wires and different plugs

here's what is overlook on tune ups alot -vacumm lines check make sure there not hard or cracked and get a vaccum gauge and check vacumm advance see if its working propley

a guage won't tell you if it is working. You need a vac pump...of just stick the hose in your mouth and suck on it and see if the idel chainges.
Checking the vac lines is a given....but since it is a check, we can't add it to his shopping list.
Check all belts and coolant hoses too
If it has been more than 2 years on your coolant... or if it is no longer green, drain it, flush it, and fill it with fresh 50/50.
Test the battery
test/replace the rad cap.
if you drain the coolant, it would be dumb to not replace the T-stat.
Test the battery...it's gettin to be that time of year.
new wiper blades and fill up with blue stuff.
maybe a bottle of water absorbant in the tank for the just in case it got some water in the fuel.
check the tranny fluid leven/condition
check the diff(s) oil
pull the drums and hose it all out with a couple cans of brake clean... inspect everything with great care... look for fluid leakage on the brake cylinder boots, look for cracks in the shoes or broken hardwear.

Lots of stuff you can add.... look it over the day before you plan to work on it.

My Grandpa bought the truck new and it has worked hard for 33 years. It will now be starting its new life as a street machine and show truck.
